I can average 9ltrs/100 on the hwy, and around 14-15ltr/100 in town, the best I have ever seen was a trip from Bendigo to Torquay, I filled up at Bendigo, full, set the trip comp, did 210klm to the BP servo in Torquay, it took 18 ltrs, which is 8.5 ltrs/100klm, not bad I must say.

well not everyone can afford for buy a TE50 and then drive it daily,

Im asking as my father wants to put a EFi Windsor into his XY wagon, and is wondering if its going to be worth it, and so far he will be getting almost double the fuel usage as he got outta his mild 351 cleveland on straight gas, you guys are getting about 20-30 miles to a gallon when he was getting about 15 miles to a gallon,

yeah at first he was just going to get ridd of the Gas Research system and put on a impco 425 and then the gas prices gone up and its really not worth it, then i told him i wanted a 351 for my XY, so he handed his down to me, and then was going to buy a 302 windsor and fitt 289 heads and a Holley fuel injection system.. then liked the whole idea of the original ford EFi system into the old school car, so hes going todo it eather e series or AU 302 windsor and 4 speed auto, just something tricky

Yeah i agree try and get hold of an AUII/III 220kw version, or you might be lucky enough to find a 5.6L T series/Pursuit 250 engine

Sounds like the V8's use only a tiny fraction more than the 4L I6 engines... I do believe my next car will have to be a V8 on injected LPG.

Your dad is mad then. : The 5.6 in the series 3 T's and pursuit utes is the best incarnation of the windsor. And $10k complete for 250 kw in an XY is bloody cheap. But then it's his car and his money, so if he wants top spend a few grand less to get up to 65kw less, then why not? He'll just spend the some money trying to regain that power difference through exhaust mods, cam etc.

my dad is 59 years of age mate, he is over all the high performance stuff, just wants a car that he can tow his boat with, it wont get any sort of mods once its in the car and running, and he doesnt WANT OR NEED the extra 65kw and he cant drive a manual as he was involved in an accident a few years and the end result was he lost one of his legs and the other one has a titanium knee in it, so call him mad or whatever the fu*k you want mate i just come to see how much fuel usage a AU does cause because of his accident he cant get a job so it will be done on the cheaper side, is that ok with you mate?

I just got back from a 800km weekend trip. Took the TS. It's auto (and 5.6L). Averaged 10.95l/100 at average speed of 90.3km/h. Gave it plenty through the hills and twisties too so can't complain.

About three weeks ago I took a mate's AUII XR6 to Sydney with a light trailer - averaged a tad over 12l/100. It's an auto. I expected much better from the 4.0L.

Everyone go to repco... they brought the rights and get a vapourate fuel system.- there little copper rings which sit around the injector nozzles, And heat up with the engine temp and turn the fuel to mist.
Best $400-600 fitted mod you can do (highly recommended)
My fuel bill dropped significantly!!! In my au 2 xr8 i got about 7kw's and heaps more from every tank- They reckon you can even stop using premium? But na " premium dude she needs premium....premium lol check it out

Get over yourself mate. It was humour; I wasn't calling him an idiot. That would be reserved for his brother's nephew.

Give or take half a litre I get 12.5 L/100km constantly from my 5.6 manual. Tried to drive it spiritedly for a whole tank ful once and the worst I could conjure up was 15L/100km

Anyway back on Topic,
LOL. I like that saying; the older you get, the younger you convince yourself you are!

So...Back on topic. I'd recommend the 5.6 V8 auto with ESS (sort of like tiptronic auto, with steering wheel controls). If that doesn't suit, then the 220 from the series 2 T's (and series 1 TS50), or the 200kw motors out of the series 1 TE50. Again, they have the ESS controls with the auto (this is assuming you would be using the ECU and BEM from the donor car).

Really, as far as EFI goes, any of the 5.0 from EB onwards would do the job. 165kw (EB to EF) is pretty good, with fuel consumption around 15l/100km avg (give or take 1l/100km), and better than that on the highway, but around 20-25l/100km when towing say 1.5tonnes. The EL started out as 175kw, and series 2 went to 185. The AUs started at 185 and up to 220 from 5.0, or 250 from 5.6.

The options are there - I'd contact FTG and see what sort of deal they'd do for engine, auto, ECU, BEM, loom etc.

hey, take it easy alright.

I'm sorry that we all dont know about your dad's unfortunate accident, but there is no need to get hostile or defensive about it.

being a ford community and your old man undertaking such an interesting project, most would assume the thing would be modded in someway or another.

it wouldnt have hurt to put "STOCK" somewhere in your first post to avoid all this confusion if its such a big deal.

It's OK H; he's young. But he has a sense of humour too (read 3 or 4 posts up). Classic.

In my daily driven auto TE50 I get;
Highway 9.8/100km
City 14.5km/100km
Mixed (most common) 13.8km/100km or around 400km per tank
