In short, some scumbag broke into my AUII SE Ute at westfield Parramatta today, thankfully nothing of too much value was stolen (few bucks in change, CD's and MP3 FM transmitter)
They got in by jimmying something in the lock and breaking it. My Keyfob is broken at the moment and the key is the only way of locking it (just locks with some effort) Would I have to go to the dealer to get the locked fixed? Any suggestions/advice, thanks. |

not necessarily, but just remember, if you get a lock from a wreckers, the key will be different...personally, i'd see how much ford would charge for a new lock, ignition barrel and keys, then they will also have to reprogram the new key to the bem in the car, i think some other people can also do this reprogramming, no idea on who does it or cost tho....the other option is to get a lock, barrel and key from a wrecker and get them programmed, or just have a different lock and key for the door, till you get the remote replaced or fixed that is

You could get the lock mechanism from a wreckers and then swap over the outer silver bits to your lock barrel so that your key still works. I actually repaired my old XR6 one when someone tried to open it with a screwdriver. Ended up looking a bit second hand, but worked like new.

Yeah thought that might be the case.
Booked it in to get done on Monday at Janalli Ford, he said it's pretty common and a relatively easy fix but couldnt give me a price over the phone. Oh well, hopefully the scumbag who broke in got hit by a bus on his way home :( |
