Default Mrs leaving to find work in WA

As my Mrs has decided to leave and find work all the way over in WA, I thought I'd use my good friends here to spread my testicles err.. tentacles, and try to source some contacts or advice.

She's probably going to live in the Medina area (where her son is) and is looking for book keeping work, food preparation or service, cleaning, anything really and she'd even do fly in fly out work in the mines if it was available.

She's a 'mature' woman which may possibly present a problem?

Any ideas, advice, suggestions or funny comments all gratefully accepted.
Cheers
Duke.

Mines pretty good at book-keeping (pass on anything to do with cooking or cleaning though)... Could your Mrs take mine with her?

^^ hahaha nice one. Dude if she's keen on the mines and cleaning, tell her to contact Spotless. They do all the Rio Tinto cleaning etc. Another one is Topic Caterers who service the Camps, and also a mob called ESS.

Oh wow, Medina is only about 5 minutes away from me. I live in Bertram.

Uhh, Book Keeping, I'd say she could try and get into the local Kwinana Town Council, Food prep, there's also a few catering companies around the place probably in Rockingham, maybe get her son to send over the West Australian news paper, there's heaps of pages of jobs.

Ha hah you guys crack me up.
Maybe we could book a group flight for a whole bunch of wives -

I should have been clearer - she's not leaving me - she's leaving NSW to find work in WA, that's all. I have just been hired as a business development manager on the central coast to newcastle area, so she's going alone but intends to come back or maybe I'll transfer over to there at some point.

- Thanks kindly for the advice. I'l check them out 1 by 1.
- Gordo, I'll see what we can come up with.
- Check ur email soon Col

Appreciate the responses from all so far - thank you.

What a top idea...why didn't I think of this

A group flight might be the way to go....I bet others would be keen on this idea as well :

If you could market this somehow you would be a millionaire in no time :

I suppose it would mean a bit more action for the WA guys as well with all these middle aged women on the loose in Perth :

Some of us ex wives are not that bad, some ex husbands can be tho.

Maybe she should hit some of the agencies online and ring them up and find out what is going.

Although the GAS crisis here has slowed job demand somewhat there are still jobs going (albeit not near as many as before). See http://www.gowestnow.com/?page=browsejobs (scroll down to see the jobs) and http://www.sbdc.com.au/gowest/?page=search

Thanks aza - yeah, she already had that one on her screen.

Thanks aussieblue - having a look now.

And GCG - I've never done BDM before, I've always managed my own businesses, but they tell me that in this role I'll be able to use my knowledge to help other managers who may be having trouble, reading P&L's, doing business plans etc etc.... hope it's good. $65k, car, phone, laptop for starters - that'll do me if the jobs okay.

I have worked for ESS before here in Roxby. Might be different here than there but i would be carful. Get screwed around. There are better caterers such as sudexo or P&O. Compass group also own P&O.Even try total marine services Perth for a job on the off sure oil rigs. $450 a day to wash and fold laundry on some rigs over there......Only requirment usually is a hultz??? Ticket. A week long course on simulated hellicopter crashes in water. Cost 800-1200 bucks depending where you do it. Darwin, Perth, Tassie, Melbourne and i think Townsville.

Cheers brian

work in W.A. is fairly easy to find . there really does seem to be a lack of people to fill jobs, especially skilled jobs,tradies/ mechanics etc.
don't go thinking that everyone is throwing money around though.and unskilled jobs locally are paying no more than usual.

good luck finding somewhere to live....

Thanks Mustang - she's going to live with her son and his grilfriend for a bit and see how things work out. I think she mainly wants to get out of NSW and was going to go to QLD but her son asked her to go over with him. She's not chasing big dollars, just a normal job.

I'm stuck here with a new job starting soon. Although, on one of the links posted above i did find something very very suitable for me in WA... hmmm....

iss actually just took over from ess for servicing the rio tinto sites in the pilbara. the website is below

http://www.au.issworld.com/Pages/default.aspx

As mentioned spotless do a lot of the site maintenance for rio tinto so they would be good to contact. Site below.

http://www.spotless.com.au/

Of course she could look at the rio, woodside and bhp websites but most of the cleaning and maintenance jobs go to contractors. A big one for Rio is Skilled (http://www.skilled.com.au/) They do a lot of the semi-professional jobs.

I know most of the big companies up here are deperate for workers, so good luck to her.

The more the merrier!

She should have no problems finding work, A few labour hire companies are normally the way to get into the mines as cleaner/hospitality positions. I'd be trying Extra group, Skilled labour hire aswell as a few others.

if she gets desperate i can probably get her a cashiers job where i work, and its only 5 mins down the road. let me know!

also no offence to any kwinana residents, but it isn't the best place in the world. without being racist there are a (fair) few unemployed undesireables around not afraid to take advantage of (or aquire goods from) residents. tell her to be careful!

Big ol' 2 story house to myself, with billiard table, 4 large screen tv's, 4 beds, 3 toilets, office, formal dining rooms....

Plenty of room for stay over guests - female of course :

Thanks Cam and XR06T, I'll let her know, appreciate your help.
