Default What would you pay for my car?

I'm looking at selling my car, but I need to decide whether to leave it 'as is' or strip some of the goodies and sell them off separately. I know mods don't add their value to the car, hence I'm thinking of taking off some stuff like the Tickford and Momo bits and pieces. Anything major like the Premium brakes would obviously stay. Wheels and stereo will be coming off/out, and the car will be sold with standard Ford CD player and 17" Tickford wheels (either AU1 or 2).

So, my question is, what's it worth and should I pick some bits off it?

It's an October 98 AU Ford Fairmont, 4L I6 automatic, done 180,000kms. I've done a fair few bits and pieces to it over the 3 years I've had it, including:
- Front grille from AU2/3 Fairmont
- Rear bumper from AU2/3
- Rear chrome boot garnish from AU2/3 Fairmont
- Headlights professionally colour coded
- Chrome striping
- GENUINE Tickford bobtail spoiler off TE50 series 1
- Tickford badges
So externally its been updated to AU2
- Lowered professionally using King Superlow springs and Boge short shocks.
- Recently installed urethane bushes for lower control arm mounts and also sway bar bushes/links.
- It drives beautifully.
- 2.5" mandrel bent exhaust from cat back. Sounds tough. 2.5" stainless twintips
- Rocker cover powder coated Sahara Blue by the FPV mob
- Tickford intake
- BMC air filter

- Tickford Premium brake set-up, only went on 6 months ago so practically new pads and rotors front and rear (RDA slotted rotors, Bendix GCT pads)
- Dark tint (28% VLT)
- Paint is immaculate Sparkling Burgundy
- Black & grey leather Momo steering wheel from T-series (new condition)
- Black leather Momo auto shifter (new condition)
- Red / blue LEDs in window switches and Fairmont dash controls.- Full Ghia / Tickford black leather and woodgrain interior. Seats are Tickford perforated leather out of a 2001 XR6, door trims are Ghia with woodgrain strips.
- Chrome handles
- LTD woodgrain headlight switch

It is a dream to drive, and has a new alternator and battery in the last 6 months too. So, thoughts? There's more pics and a full build detail in my build thread [http://www.fordforums.com.au/showthr...=70490&page=1]
I'm not in a rush to sell it, but thought I'd put the feelers out. There's ones on carsales completely standard AU2 Farimonts for 8-10k, so I think 8ish is reasonable? Sure it's an AU1, but it's got better brakes than an AU2, looks better externally, and has been sound deadened to the same sort of level as AU2 (which were the 3 major updates if I'm not wrong).
Cheers, and thanks in advance! Matt.

mattp, that looks to be an Excellent example of an AU Fairmont and you should be proud to own it.

However, for how nice a car it is and what a pittance it'd be worth to sell, i'd be inclined to keep it if i was you.

But thats my business not yours. But on topic, I'd say no more than about $8K simply due to the fact that it's over 10 years old.

I suggest you continue to own the car , my most recent purchase is a 2002 wagon , gli with some tidy bits and ok mags , the source delivered it to me needing a guard and bumper , total cost with a wovy and rego repairs etc less than 3.5k....

Thanks, but it's not really apples with apples, what's a 'wovy' incidentally?

Looks like a beautiful example, but I personally can't see it fetching 8k.

I'd be removing and selling all of the following seperately (provided of course you still have the original stuff), and then advertise it for 5-6k:
Front grille from AU2/3 Fairmont
- Rear chrome boot garnish from AU2/3 Fairmont
- Tickford badges
- Lowered professionally using King Superlow springs and Boge short shocks.
- Black & grey leather Momo steering wheel from T-series (new condition)
- Black leather Momo auto shifter (new condition)
-Seats are Tickford perforated leather out of a 2001 XR6, door trims are Ghia with woodgrain strips.
- Chrome handles
- LTD woodgrain headlight switch

Thanks for the comments guys, it's nice to hear some positive feedback!
The reason I'm thinking of selling it is just to get into something newer, I'm thinking an LTD would be pretty sweet, tinted and on the FPV 19s. I always told myself when I finished uni I'd get myself a 'new' car
I may well end up keeping it for 6 months to a year though, and wait for LTD prices to come down even more. In the next month or so I'll probably decide and properly prepare it for sale, then see if I get any nibbles. I'll be sad to see it go though, that's for sure!

Park it beside my car, we can swap some bits over, I'll give you 3k and you sell it for 6k! That's as mush as you will get! Be lucky to see 6 or so as it stands, with RWC! Best of luck, Nice Fairy!

That is a very nice looking AU! i reckon you would get 8k for it in that condition with everything on it.
I think the other guys are right though, take some of the things off that will not help you sell.

Matt. In the end when i upgraded to my XR8 i didnt bother selling my 99 forte for a few years. I'd spent to much money on it and it wasn't worth selling. The money it was worth compared to the money spent on it. Could be worth keeping it as a spare if you can afford it. As soon as i sold mine i regreted it. Had no reason to keep it but regreted it anyway. So my input is KEEP IT and buy another one. Lol That solves the problem. haha

To update an old thread, I've got an offer of 9.5k and an offer of 10k, so looks like it may be moving on. It's going complete with all the goodies except the 19s, it'll be wearing 17" AU1 Tickford wheels. Now to decide what to replace it with!
Cheers, Matt.

Why would you do that rather than the usual $80ish for a RWC from a mechanic?
