Mustang or Falcon

It's something I keep thinking about; If Mustang was offered alongside it's
performance four door distant cousin, would it be more desirable to own?


Assuming both had same driveline/chassis/price/power/quality, i.e., no
arguments about live axles and which has better power to weigh ratio, the
question is more about the two different cars.

The poll question is not about whether you think the Mustang will
survive in this market, nor is it about the Falcon/GT brand being too
strong. It's about what YOU would rather have as a performance car.

Examples.

XR8 or Mustang GT?

Mustang with Ecoboost V6, or F6?

A supercharged FPV GT, or Shelby GT500?

Which is it for you, the Mustang or the Falcon?

Since I was a boy, mustangs have ALWAYS done it for me.. I was 11 and I remember seeing the first one in a magazine my Uncle had.. Love at first sight.

As a pure performance car it has to be the Mustang.

BUT

If the car needs to fill more than that role and is also used as a family car or needs to seat more than 2 in any sort of comfort than it has to be the Falcon.

I don't think they compete in the same market.

As said earlier, the Mustang is king, but for most of us mere mortals four doors is a must.

Well this is an interesting one for me, If it was either one as they are now, I would take the Falcon any day of the week. But it isn't, so I wouldn't.

The two biggest problems I have with the current Mustang, is the folllowing:
a) the ridiculous price, and
b) the ancient drivetrain,

You need to remember, the Mustang is sold in the US as a VERY cheap car, a fair bit cheaper than our Falcon is for us, yet last time Ford officially sold them out here, they were over 80K, not good enough. but if they had a near identical drivetrain to the Falcon, it would be a lot cheaper for Ford to import them, in fact they could probably even build them here (in RHD form, for RHD markets). So that means they then probably wouldn't be so expensive.

Secondly, the drivetrain. It really is pathetic compared to the Falcon, that V6 isn't too bad (yes I have driven a late model Mustang, so I do speak from experience), but it has nothing on the I6 from the Falcon, and the V8s just aren't good enough either (Shelby versions are the exception here). As the Poms would say, how do they get such a small amount of power out of such a big engine?

So yeah going by that situation, I would take the Mustang. Seems you would get the best of both worlds, the awesome looks of a Mustang, with the sophistication of a Falcon. That said though, I don't have a family, and I don't really need a large car.

As for Drivetrains, stock 2010 Mustang GT would be about as quick as a XR6T or G6ET in a straight line.

The mustang for sure. True sports car vs family car with a v8, no comparrison. If we were talking about a phase 3 it would be a different question though

Desire is only the knowing that you [impossibly] can't have what you want, so you may be right there...
