Hey, sorry your EA burnt, but if you want some genuine advice here, supply some details about your purchase including what State you live in, otherwise you can expect more of the cynical posts you have received so far.

I bought a car for the missus today (a getz) and I'm pretty ****ed at the dealer. When we got it home I was reviewing the paper work and a piece he slipped in after we signed (rego papers) stated that it doesn't have a compliance plate but it is exempt (Written on dept transport letter head).
I'm controlling myself not to ring and abuse him for not bothering to 'disclose' that seeing they are the ones that registered the car it seems. Unfortunately we were in a hurry and when I couldn't see the plate assumed the getz must affix it somewhere else and didn't think much of it.

Unfortunately you are stuck with it. After a very recent experience of buying a car for my son I find the private buying experience far worse than the dealer experience. We almost bought a repairable writeoff because the seller didn't disclose this. Lucky we did a REVS check. A dealer in NSW has to disclose this. Lots of other frustrating problems but they are for another thread.

private sale = buyer beware. Even when you buy a brand new lemon from a dealer you're poo out of luck sometimes, been there done that.
When buying, check the car out thoroughly yourself, and/or a good mechanic as well.

i bought a lemon also, worked alright for a week, then it started falling apart on me, a few trips to the mechanic later and it is better, more or less anyway.
definitely taught me a lesson in buying cars and ive gotten better with cars because of it, so not all bad |
