Evenin' all,
As the title suggests.. I am in the market for an AU wagon and am trying to seek come clarification on options between the different levels of 'coon wagoons available.. i.e power windows - front / rear, cruise, cd player, climate control, trim etc etc.. I would LOVE a 'mont wagon but without traveling interstate I can't find anything even remotely worthwhile.. Unless I can track something down that is worthy, I might be looking to the dark side (i.e, BA  )Thanks in advance Cam

If Fairmont isn't an option then best bet would be series 3 Futura. That gets F/R power windows, cruise, CD. No climate on anything except Fairmont obviously.
I think it has a dark grey/black cloth trim. Forte you lose your rear power windows and cruise. Also the trim is lighter which looks worse. |

Cam, I would be hanging out for a Mont Wagon. Airfairs are pretty cheap and would be worth the upgrade to a Mont wagon, especially if it is a ghia.

If it comes to that down the track, then I probably will fly interstate.. But now you mention it, does the AU GHIA wagon actually exist?
The problem with flying interstate is that I also have a 3 year old to contend with, so it's not quite as easy as jumping on a plane and driving home! But for the right car for the right price I will consider it..

AU11 or 111 SR is another option they tick all the boxes as well as being a bit more plentiful than the Montys a few on car sales for around the 7 ish mark

I'd hang out for one too. A Fairmont with a V8 would be awesome. GK

Thanks for the info all..
I would love a V8, but it is going to be my tow car for my around oz trip so I'll probably stick with a 6 banger mainly for fuel reasons.. Unless I found one on gas..

The 5.0 isnt really any dearer to run fuel wise then the 6.
Yes around town they use slightly more but on the open road they just sip the fuel. They actually use slightly less then the 4.0. We have 2xAU 5.0's here and in all honesty they use stuff all fuel. |

I have owned both a 6 and currently a V8 and I've towed with both - the V8 is a better bet, but they are very rare. Your best bet is an AUII Fairmont wagon. As well as electric windows, climate control and cruise control you also get traction control and ABS, which I don't think the Futura got. Plus you get the better Fairmont dash, standard roof racks, 6 CD stacker stereo and if you find an AUIII an electric drivers seat!  A Fairmont wagon shouldn't cost you much more than a Futura. I sold my 6, which had 264K for $4,200 and yes, it was a good one... |

I will for sure, she is pretty close to immaculate..
Any ideas on the Diff ratios / LSD in 'goons? Even the trusty falcon facts website doesn't list it..

I can tell you our AUII Futura wagon is a 3.45 open diff and I don't know if it makes a difference but it is a factory dual fuel.

Well, I now own an AU II Fairmont Wagon! Could be AU Wagin's little brother!
http://www.carsales.com.au/private/d...-2001-12497989 Interior is immaculate, a couple of tiny marks on the exterior. But other then that I am happy with the pickup. The auto shift incredibly well, engine is very smooth and all electrics work, I paid $5.2k with rwc. I am sure I could've possibly got one a bit cheaper, but over the past few months it's been very hard to find one in decent nick in QLD, and having full service history does give a little piece of mind.. A couple of things need attention, but will start a build thread over the next few days when I have time.. Because tomorrow I pick up my caravan, and then operation "quit work and go traveling" gets that little bit more real!

Usually V8 wagons (non-XR) got 3:23 or 3:27 LSD... Just jump under the back of the car, and on the drivers side of the car, there should be a yellow or white sticker with the ratio and wether it has LSD on it...

prn31, i think sd1800's was a ghia. i had an au1 ghia and it did have traction control too.

I wouldnt think that any wagon in the Au series would get LSD.
AFAIK the only cars to get it were Ghias and XR's. Could you even option it if you wanted to?
