That AU fairlane does look good, as long as the vehicle sit's level, that's how I like em, I hate it when people lower the front and have the rear end sitting high up in the air.

Well all this talk of springs finally got to me. I bought a set of Ultralow king springs for the TS50 front and back. Got them home and took me an hour to put the back ones on by myself, and boy does she look great.
I think the fact that it has the lowest AU kit helps alot too, and now the 19's don't look too small any more. You guys had me worried with all the talk of scraping and bottoming out, but she is all good, rides exactly the same as I kept the factory Koni shocks.
She went from (centre of wheel to top of the rear wheel arch) 355mm down to 325 so far. Should go lower as I only took her around the block.
Fronts will go on when I can take her down to my suspension guy. Might get them re-set when I get my new wheels though to sit exactly where I want it to.
For the T-series guys, definitely do it, not too low, and looks better.

Hey guys, thanks for all your comments...

I bought and installed the spring myself, got some good prices for the springs, and all up only cost me $240. I went for the SL front and SSL rear. At the moment, handles better for sure, a little bit rougher ride, but only marginally and the car sits beautifully and still drives great. Maybe the reat is about 5mm lower than the front, but hardly noticeable. Ill let it sit for a few weeks and see where it settles to and potentially put SSL in the front if need be.

And its not too low to be impractical either. So thanks, and for anyone whos thinking of doing it. So far (after 1 day) im fully happy...

and still nobody can tell me how far off the ground at the lowest point is??

from reading specs of my AU 1 fairlane the lowest point at the moment is 160mm off the ground(im guessing its the muffler) give or take

will SSL put me BELOW 100mm?
also how much have people been paying for camber kits for the IRS.. it is for the IRS isnt it? not the front? as whiteline list a front end camber kit but not a rear one..

I dont think you can get a camber kit for the rear my Ghia has one on the front and damn the differance that makes to handling-1.5 camber all round anyways i have lovells SSL springs on front and SSL king springs on rear only thing ive had to replace is the sports exhaust due to hitting things"wasnt done right the first time".

It comes down to personal preferance i think but my car looks great with the suspension and MK2 XR8 rims.

Its very unlikely the IRS will need a camber kit. I know on the XR6 the adjustment it more then enough to compensate for SL's. Front had enough adjustment too on mine.

Well after 4 days now of having the SSL rear and SL front and having had a 4 wheel alignment done i can tell you that no camber kit needed to be purchased. I was told this by a guy who works for ford and also by those who did the alignment at K-mart Tyre and Auto. Apparently the E series needed kits because the adjusting bolts on the fronts were shorter, ford changed this on the AU onwards and now isnt a problem. Also the IRS i was told has plenty of adjustment.

And my car handles amazingly well now... turns in great and has eliminated alot of the push/understeer i used to have with factory springs... plus it looks sensational.

Just another update on the handling....

I've become amazed and overwhelmed by the increase in cornering speed and stability. Turn in is so precise and the fairly aggressive understeer on factory springs is pretty much eliminated. Much less body roll too.

Just thought id let you all know as im having a GREAT time cornering at the moment!

Don't know if they've settled down... its only been 1 week so far, but they don't seem to have changed much at all. I wouldnt say they've become significantly lower over the past week, maybe they will... but it appears not. In a way i hope they stay exactly how they are as the ride height is great now...

XR AYTE, i almost would agree with you there. The car currently sits flat, but because of the actual guard heights (front being a little higher than the rear) it almos gives the impression of the back being lower. So im going to give it another two months and see if it changes much. If not i might consider changing the fronts to SSL. But i DO love it as it is.

Oh and im yet to bottom out on anything either

wow, BJMXR you've got a really nice ride there!

I want to lower my forte, was wondering how much would it cost to get it done and everything?

If you can find someone with a workshop and a spring compressor you can get out of it for a total of $250, thats all it cost me. Kept the factory shocks in (70,000 km, so ill replace them soonish anyway) but yeah, thats it. Took us about 2 hours to do, otherwise id imagine you'd be looking at $200 labour if you paid someone.

Either way, it was fully cheap, fronts cost me $120 for the pair and rears $130 delivered.

And again, i still havent scraped or bottomed out (so far!)

They are just SL's. But I am running straight LPG and have a few subs and amps. Mudflaps are gone, only reason they were there was the photo was taken 5 seconds after the work was finished.

What are people running in there non-XR falcons?
Ive got a stock forte, and lookin at some Kings all round. I dont have lpg or woofers in the rear... so weight isnt a problem. Would SL on the front and SSL on the rear level the car out nicely (with 17inch rims)? or should i just stick with SL all round?

Cheers.

My Au2 definately appears to sit lower in the rear than in the front with King Superlows all round.I really cant comprehend how people can say the Superlows arent low enough in the rear?
Mine sits exactly the same as RS2K's
