Hi guys,
Jonno here, as titile states im new here, I'm seriously considering a BF XR6T ZF 6 speed. I figured this would be the best place to start researching I'm not one eyed I've previously had an XF sedan, EL sedan, AU XR8. But also had my fair share of LS1 & 5L commodores. I figure commodores are ridiculously over priced these days and a change is as good as a holiday. Anyway just thought i'd introduce myself, im an electrician in Shepparton Vic & hope to purchase a good clean example of an XR6T in the coming months & get back into the bllue oval, it's been a while |

Mate, once youve had an XR6 Turbo auto (hell, even my old 4spd was respectable!) you will wonder what youve been wasting your time for in other cars!
Buy it! |

Welcome aboard mate
Sounds like you have done your homework, the BF will be a great great car im sure and bang for buck is hard to beat. People like yourself are always welcome at AFF, most of us are car enthusiasts and not necessarily 1 eyed Blue Oval supporters. Feel free to share your real life experiences of the vehicles you've owned from the General. Quite often some of our members feel the need to sink the boot into the opposition in some desperate bid for acceptance despite never getting closer to owning 1 than a stand at the local motor show. They usually fail as in actual fact many of us have indeed dabbled with different brands, including Holden products, and respect what they have to offer. Good luck in your hunt. |

Welcome Jonno, my current ride is my 1st turbo vehicle and I found the AFF to be a wonderful place to learn about our cars and it's packed with really genuine people who share common passions for motoring. Ask as many questions as you want buddy, in my experience you always get some good answers/feedback. I think some where in the production life of the BF's they upgraded to stronger engine internals, but I have no idea as to what date this took effect, I'm sure there will be someone who can provide the right answer as to what build date to look for.
Hope you find your new ride soon Cheers

I think it's the BFII where they brought in the stronger internals.

Thanks very much for the positive feedback guys, i have my heart set on a BF II with the ZF 6 Speed for obvious reasons.
Yep have been researching quite a while, im in the typical scenario wife, kids & mortgage, just think for $14-$18k you are getting MASSIVE bang for buck & reasonable economy. Cheers guys will keep informed... |

and id like a low kms BF II XR6T as it will be the first car i plan on holding onto for more than 5 minutes Have briefly scanned carsales/gumtree etc, it looks possible 70/100,000 kms around my budget. Not confident if i want a stock or tuned example though I would possibly enjoy purchasing stock and doing the mods over time being genuine enthusiast, having said that more $ come into equation |

Welcome mate, the Turbo's are a great car and yes most here are car enthusiasts...I for one currently have a GT and a SSV ute, so best of both worlds!
Make sure you keep us updated when you find a car and take the journey of modding a XR6 Turbo!!!! There is a wealth of information on here that will greatly assist you. If I were you I would find a stock car, give it a good service and then upgrade to your specs, the cost of boosting these cars is ALOT cheaper than modding a Commodore V8.

I have a BFII XR6T, bought it 18 months when it had 29,000 kms. Stock as a rock, what a car! Plenty of power and an easy 580 kms out of a tank. That 6 speed is amazing. This one is a keeper for sure.
The stronger engine internals are from mid 06 onwards from memory. My advice is to definitely but a stock car then just get it tuned and a decent exhaust and that should be all the power you would ever need carting around a family on our roads these day. Your kids will love it, everytime i aqueeze the throttle to overtake on the freeway or get out of a situation my 2 year old goes WWWEEEEEE, lol. |
