Any way to mod in your own kill switch? mount it under the seat or something...when you are locking the car, just flick the switch...

Not necessarily. Electronic control or not, there will always be a way to physically stop a car being started. As i said, im thankful our Vitara had one, saved us 3 times. got the idea off a Mechanic Friend when we live in Qld. He was into Diesels and 4WD's and had had 2 stolen, so started building and installing ignition kill switches. Funnily enough, he was a real bastard, in his Land Cruiser, he put in the switch and 3 dummies. And as it would happen, he caught 2 thugs trying to figure out WTF was goin on, coz they found 1 dummy switch in the glove box and kept flicking it from on to off. Needless to say, when the police arrived and the 2 idiots were K.O'd, he explained how they "ATTACKED" him and he was only defending himself. _2:

Easy as pie, choose what you want to kill, and do it, can kill ignition supply, power to fuel pump, power to ECU(not recommended, but possible), transmission(not goin far if car only sits in revers, neutral or first) or anything really.

If u have decent insurance and are really sick and need pyschiatric help, put the kill switch to the pwr sterring or brakes, only problem being the other people in other cars.

A Spark plug threaded into the petrol tank with a on delay timing circuit. If not deactivated either before starting or within X amount of time , a pulse is sent ....BANG !!!

Why not two sticks of Gelly and an electric detonator hooked to the glove box lamp.!!! Umm I dont think we can actually do this shit though it may well still be legal in South Africa.

I have always thought of a throttle solenoid and an ignition latch to be remotely activated once the GPS reported a clear piece of road. We could then see how the average tom, dick or mohumad car thief, could drive with a wide open throttle. But somehow I think a law abiding approach is more approriate. _

I like the anti theft device as seen in the movie robocop... the car theif gets fried, and the car automatically ejects the corpse!

So do the Ford keys used in The Falcon have chip in them? I know the carpodore keys do. I know thief use their on keys & smart lock to get around the system but this take time to do so most are tow away. That why data dot is a good idear as most parts are marked on the car with a I.D number of some sort.

Make nosie, a kill switch hooked up to the Horn. Turn ing to acc and press horn then start, horn doesn't go off but disables kill switch. Mate thought it up and has it on all his car's, even if people know about it i highly doubt they'd have the balls to test it everytime they steal a car.

Most holden cars Pre vx i think can be blackboxed, takes about 45min then the car can be started by breaking the barrel and turning it on with a screw driver. Apparently. Funny thing is not to many falcons go missing, every second crappa dore walks gets banged up and wlaks again.





Anyone know how safe the revs system is, i used it when i bought my EF xr8 and all numbers came back sweet. Mate has just/about to buy a SS and the engine doesn't match the chassis number, now has a 355 stroker. Car sounds awsome and goes hard as hell and the owner had lots of reciets BUT why would the engine nuber be different.

Chances are the stroker was exchange... See if the new engine number is on the reciepts

A team from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore published a study last week showing how they unravelled the immobiliser code of a late-model American SUV and bought petrol using a copied electronic smart card.
Widespread adoption of the technique by criminals would render car security systems vulnerable and electronic tolling systems open to abuse.

But local security experts say Australian car security and e-tag systems use a much more complex electronic architecture and would be more difficult to crack.

"Our assessment is there are unlikely to be any major implications for the Australian car fleet," said Carsafe Australia spokesman Geoff Hughes.

"The reason we say that is, unlike Australia, there are no standards for immobilisers in the US - they're not even compulsory equipment."

More than 50 million American cars use the Texas Instruments system defeated by the university team.

But Australian immobilisers used longer code sequences and more sophisticated software, Mr Hughes said.

"The process the scientists described suggests the chip they attacked was a low-grade fixed-code chip. Australian standards require a rolling code which constantly changes and is known only to the key and the car. Advice from our technical experts is that to try and copy a current generation rolling code key would require very expensive computer equipment and a lot of spare time."

Mr Hughes said the researchers copied the immobiliser code from one of their own cars and started it using a plain metal key and a laptop computer replicating the original key's electronic signal. This method would not defeat local security systems.

"The replacement key process for rolling code devices requires specialised equipment and access to the vehicle to marry the replacement key to the vehicle's ECU (engine control unit)."

Immobilisers had cut theft rates by up to 90 per cent and recent studies showed most thefts of new cars now involved stealing the keys, Mr Hughes added.

The US researchers also extracted and copied the code from an ExxonMobil Speedpass, similar in principle to the e-tags used for road tolling in Australia. They bought petrol using the replicated pass.

But Australian e-tags required two-way authentication before they revealed their identity, said wireless systems engineer Mark Le Pla.

"I'm not saying any security is ever infallible but a lot of effort has gone into encrypting both the uplink and the downlink," he said.

I get really really worried about car theft with my car. I know its only not an issue now because its not in a 'streetable' condition. However, when it is I will be fitting just about every kill switch imaginable too it (already thought of the horn trick before, but my dad has a really fantastic one that is under the felt lining of his dash and you rub your finger across it - you can't actually see the switch). Im thinking, power steering, fuel, ignition.

problem with all these hidden switch ideas is that low lifes and car thieves read forums too.. any simple single throw switch mechanism is soon bridged.
