Default AU Cigarette lighter fault

Hello all,

apart from the obvious, being a blown fuse, has anyone have any idea why my cigarette lighter would not be working in my AU. I am hoping it will be a common problem with someone offering an easy fix without having to run a new wire to the unit. Any ideas on where to start - after the fuse of course!!

Hi. All ford and mazda lighter sockets since the 80's have had a thermal fusible link on the rear of the socket as well as the fuse in the fuse box. If you look on the back of the socket there is a short black wire going between 2 terminals and this will have melted inside the insulation, you just need to solder a short bit of wire to the 2 terminals to replace the melted one. Cheers MD

Did all of that today MD and it's working fine now. Thanks for the help. Is there any long term danger replacing that wire for a normal wire? Should I be looking for a replacement lighter socket?

Hi. The link was made to blow if the plunger was held in for a long time ( children playing maybee). Other than Fords and Mazdas I dont think any other mob uses that base so I cant see any problem. Cheers MD
