I have noticed that in many of the threads, people are asking whether parts will be available for the Falcon post 2016.
Yes they will be, until at least 2026. Ford have confirmed this and it is a legal requirement. Please spread the news as this will be an important factor in consumer confidence over the next 3 years.

Strange how people think this is an issue. Do they think that the factory kicks over at 3 o'clock at the moment and starts making BA panels for spares???? Any 380's out there that cannot be repaired???

Well you can be sure some parts will get pretty scare and fairly quickly too, if history is a guide -especially if you have a limited edition model or one that isn't the main seller. Sure main mechanical bits and servicable items usually are ok, but things like trim pieces, badges, stickers, certain alloy wheels, exterior and interior trim etc can start to get rare pretty quick.
I can remember finding myself at wrecking yards three or four years after a car was discontinued because certain parts weren't stocked by Ford anymore. Hopefully Falcon and Territory will fair better. |

Well, when I buy my FU Falcon I'll be buying up a whole heap of trim pieces and those other hard to get things for later.

I'd love them to call it that, but lol, just a fun suggestion from some of us.

Well you can't get parts for current Volkswagens and people still buy them.
Seriously I can't see parts being a problem.

I suspect you may be only half joking, but its true. The sky's the limit as the technology evolves. My neighbour is already making plastic parts for his appliance repair business in his study.

Yeah I wasnt sure if the tech went beyond plastic, but with my limited knowledge it hasn't gone to metal yet?

Back on topic- for those worried about getting parts-they stopped producing the AU in 2002 but you can still get psrts for that...this isn't really much different. |

You do know that it's not only Ford who makes the spare parts - we have our Korean friends who make lots of spare parts.
They are still making reproduction stuff for cars from the 70's. If your so worried go and buy a spare parts car and store it for later use. Actually buy a couple and you will be able to make millions by selling them over priced on Flea Bay in 2020

The general public want to be able to go down to the spare parts section and know that genuine parts are available. I want that word to spread around.

Ford will say that parts will be available as they need to still sell cars until 2016.
but in reality will it really happen ? not a chance! there is no legal requirements to supply parts for 10 years. this is a myth. plenty of late model FPV,s getting written off or stored in the corner because panel shops cannot buy parts for them. Plenty of parts on a BF Falcon only 5yrs old that you cannot buy parts for if you smash it. I cant see ford having a huge buy up to load shelves with spare parts when the plants close. and as the current suppliers go broke or close the doors due to lack of work , Ford will not get the parts made elsewhere they will just make them obsolete. you will be able to service ya ford but dont rely on parts if something out of the ordinary breaks or it gets damaged. |

Ford still manufacture AU bonnets as example, if there is a market for product somebody will make it, if it's not ford, somebody will possibly step up and purchase the dyes/moulds from ford and reproduce the required part.

I still plan on buying a new falcon when I can, it was my plan since I first got my p's to upgrade from my BA xr6 to a new one, and this changes nothing, there are always after market parts available, and if you keep the car in generally good condition anyway than you shouldn't need too many spare parts anyway.

Are ford going to move manufacturing offshore? or can aussies expect the market to be flooded with euro or american built fords without the import tax. I here ford are struggling 'cause they don't export the falcons. I say "why not'? Holden have made their cars popular overseas exporting to places like saudi arabia. Toyota do the same thing (4X4's). If its big and has lots of power the saudi's will buy it. In my opinion I would like to see a lot of Mustangs flood the aussie market. Maybe i'll get one when they age and get a bit cheaper. I also think that falcons and other models would possibly be worth more into the future if they wind up with some type of 'rare' quality about them. Look at micheal jackson memorabilia, big business now the two toned bloke is dead! I mean I bought an 85 XF s-pack in 1999 for $650, sold it in 2010 for $2000 and could have gotten more if I'd been prepared to wait for the right buyer! I now own an AU2 built 4/2000 with a factory fitted tickford suspension. I won't be selling it in a hurry if falcons are going out of production. By 2030 they will hold their own value and insurance companies will have to give a real nice agreed value to clients. By 2008 I had shannons insure my XF for almost 6K, I just mentioned the "custom fitted' interior and sound system and they were all for it. They also agreed to lock in the 'agreed value' for life so the coverage wouldn't decrease over time. Food for thought.

Ford are an american based company, they export large american fords already, do not believe they would want aussie fords eating in to their export sales and risk thier own people loosing jobs.
Most people will look after their own before helping others

Forgetting for a moment about spreading positive or negative messages about parts availability, what is the actual truth? Is there a 10 year requirement by law or not?
I sold Ford parts for a few years, and always found it strange what was and wasn't available. Interior trim parts for example would become obsolete very quickly, as in a year or so after the model finished. On the other hand there were still a few brand new genuine parts current for XY Falcons in 1999. This 10 year requirement obviously doesn't apply to all parts, so if it does actually exist how is it determined which parts need to be kept current for that period? |

Most mechanical parts that dealers dont have aftrr the 10 year period aftermarket will have for years , I can still buy parts at repco for a 73 corona so I dont think we have to worry about parts just yet.

Common parts shared between all models are easy, especially stuff like panels and service items, its the unique parts only used by certain models, especially FPV's, that are the hardest to obtain over time. Stuff like unique badging, interior trims etc. |

The main parts that keep the car moving and operational will be available in 10 years time. Let's not nitpick about a badge or special stripe package.
My point of creating this thread was to ensure that we are able to dispel the myth that the general public may have, that they will be abandoned and left with a car that can't be repaired or made operational if the driveline fails.
