what i find odd is that people think doing a U turn without breaking traction is a difficult task??

being a manual makes it even more laughable.

of course i have. i've even done it in the wet, whilst doing a u-turn if truth be told. i've never had it happen 'unexpectedly' or 'accidently' and i've never come on a forum trying to play the 'victim' card!

i could do a u turn in a koenigsegg agera r and not have wheelspin, and that has over 1000hp. (thats a hypothetical for all the nitpickers).

Exactly, the real crime here is stupidity.
If ya gonna get up it, wether the initial action is intended or not, make sure there are no cops around.

Learn from it...

In 2002 a cop said to me "the fine will come in the mail".

I'm still waiting. Don't stress it won't come.

Drive an FG turbo in the wet, and the see if you make the same statement. The boost comes on at times you are least expecting, and even with traction control on, it will step it sideways. Less than 1/8th of the throttle can see you struggling to get moving in one of those things.

I got fined for skateboarding on a 60km/h public road last year at 2am (absolutely zero traffic besides myself and the police car). Fun is illegal, get used to it.

If it does come in the mail it's for a court appearance got done speeding on the Hamilton H/way last week and the H/Way patrol wrote the fine out on the spot and handed me the frightening cost and a few demerit points to go with it.

Use second gear in low traction situations.

Anyone here actually lost traction unintentionally?

I've lost traction many times, the only time it was 'unintentional' was when my tyres were bald and I should have known better after a late summer shower.

Are you 20, 30, 40, 50....need I go on?

You're at the wheel, accept your responsibility for being there.

Use less than 1/8th then you adult you.

If you can't drive it, don't drive it.

If you are in NSW and have had a clean record for 10 years you can apply to the Office of State Revenue to have the offence reviewed. If your application is successful there is no fine and no loss of points, it is just recorded as a caution, you can do it on line. www.sdro.nsw.gov.au

Did it myself last year, they let me off a $243 speeding fine, and 11 years before that, an illegal right turn ticket. They will not let you off drink driving offences or speeding in school zones.

I'm sure other states would have similar arrangements

Yes....

empty ute + greasy road @ traffic lights = wheel spin.

I back off immediately but sometimes it just happens. FWIW the tyres are only 8 months old.

I know a few people with a similar experience, so you may not hear anything more about it.

Many years ago I was in the GT and was stopped at some lights one a steep incline whilst raining with a police car behind me, I lost traction plenty of times, but as soon as I lost traction I let up on the throttle, suspect the police could see I was trying to prevent loss of traction (or had something more important to do and never said a word) Traction control was off as back then it was reasonably primitive (if it sensed a wheel was spinning it would simply cut the power - but not on my terms)

I work in an industrial estate, as such we have lots of trucks on the road, some trucks drop a bit of rubbish on the road (some cars do to) its fine whilst its sunny but during the first downpour the roads are quite slippery and can catch a lot of motorist out

Happened just recently on one of the first days of rain in ages, so we know how greasy the road gets. Was driving dads AU on Gas which doesn't have much go and have never been able to lose traction in that thing. But a greasy rd, up hill and taking off from the lights did it and caught me out of surprise. I backed off straight away, but the point is we are all human and mistakes do happen. If you back off straight away no dramas, but if you hold it there and get caught, its your own fault in the end.

Yes breaking traction is up there with the highest crimes: murder, terrorism, loss of traction... it's all the same really.

Hmm when I started at my work I drove an unladen duel cab rodeo every day. It doesn't have traction control or any other electronic aids apart from ABS. I had spun the wheels many time in the gravel on a private road.
Driving in the wet one day turning right at traffic lights I was taking it slow(much slower than my sedan) and the back began to step out(very slightly).
I let off the throttle instantly and let the ute straighten up, I began to accelerate again, even less this time and the back started to step out again.
I let of the throttle and just rolled until I was basically around the corner. First time in that corner I lost traction I was slightly surprised. Second time I was very surprised. I wasn't driving fast since I was followed closely by a hatch back through that corner.
Drive an unladen V6, petrol ute every day for a year and see if you accidentally spin the wheels a couple of times.
Those Rodeos are absolute junk.
I'm still trying to figure out why we have 2 utes at work when don't carry anything but our work bags.

Throttle control!

can solve most of these traction issues.

lets be honest though, most of us have had the wheels spin and play with the throttle a little to keep them turning, it's just most of us have not been caught

I think the mere fact you did not receive a ticket there and then, probably means you wont get one, unless he didnt have a ticket book with him.

There is many reason why he may be sending it in the post. his pen not working, his pad may have been finished, he wanted to get as many fines as possible, not doing the tickets saves time.

But just because he said he would send it does not mean you will not get it. Maybe he is preparing a statement and you may get a summons under the anti-hoon laws.

It also comes down to what exactly you said to the officer, if you said you did spin the wheels you basically admitted to the offence and the statement can be used in court.

I have, I started in second, and if that was still a problem I'd give up driving.
Why would you use first gear in an unloaded ute, its not necessary.

I drive a KB 43 4WD Rodeo ute with a massive 64 KWs of power and no weight over the rear wheels. On anything but a perfect surface it breaks traction more often than I break wind!
