While the (FH) XR8 won't be a GT, I'm left with the distinct impression that it will be more than just a renamed GS..

Yes. As disappointing as it is with no more Falcon GT's (Mustang GT to keep things going in that department if that is a consolation?) ...... the decision made was because a faster, different front and rear with more bits and pieces to make the techo's happy just couldn't be achieved within the price it needs to be and for such relatively small numbers.
Hence, the XR8. Will easily get away with the same drive line as the GT, no expectations of it having more than the GT335 and no one whinging that the new FH GT is no match for the GTS HSV. Price wise ...... will be best bang for buck for the V8 buyers and more than capable of wiping the smile of all other HSV's with a similar price or better price. While I am very disappointed there will be no more GT, I can understand the reasoning behind it. Very similar to the reasons a GTHO was never reinvented. Could never do it justice.

That looks awesome , but would it be possible to add a chrome grille surround and the stylised XR8 badge to the left side? If only I knew how to photo shop

Speaking of the RH drive Mustang, has it actually been locked in this year to be arriving in Australian showrooms? I thought it was at least next year minimum that it will be coming here?

I'd expect it here no earlier than 3rd to 4th quarter next year.

I love, love, love the pic that Auslandau has posted... If this is what it looks like, I'll have a very hard decision to make!! Last Falcon XR8 or Mustang!

Agreed...Ford it better look like that.
Seriously...the mustang can wait. And WTF..why did we have to wait until the last model before something like this came out. I think the AU saga scared FoA from ever pushing the boundaries with styling again. Sad face.

Anyone heard if the brembo box can be ticked? Since the redline has it and the dev work should be done then I cant see why not?

Do you believe that Hyundai's are a great car? Point is they had an add...and one with a bit of mongrel.
FWIW I think they were pretty line ball EL 185kw should have pipped it.

Problem back then was the XR6 kept up with the XR8 no probs and was actually a quicker car around the bendies. The poor SS with the 185 badge on the back was barely able to keep up with the 6. AH .... the days of 6's beating 8's. For a while it came it back in fashion in the 2000's
But anyway ..... I digress

no they werent . the MKI 172KW xr8 was 0-100 in 8.1 0-400 15.54 sec . xr6 was 0-100 7.8 sec and 0-400 in 15sec vs SS 0-100 in -6.9 sec 0-400 14.9.
xr8 185kw 0-100 7.6 0-400 15.2 . the ss was almost 200kg lighter from memory . and the 185 kw el xr8 was too low geared in 2nd giving it redline at 97kph. i think the pic of the new VH XR8 if accurate looks fantastic . but i'm sure the bonnet bulge will not be so high . and no stripes . different wheels . |
