Hi,
I'm commuting to work, zipping through traffic, on my little 362kg bike which is only 2.3 litres, so in theory a bike could be even bigger

Look at some of these photos of EJ Potter, he was known as 'Michigan Madman'. The photo of his V8 bike is cool. It looks quite compact seen from one side of the bike, but on the opposite side is a chain drive that sticks out quite far. Not very practical.

Hello,
I saw Potter in 1969 - early 70's at Castlereagh Drags,
He named his bikes "Widowmaker" plus a number, I am sure he was on "Widowmaker 7" when I saw him, he was nuts,and it was a full run not a show run, don't remember his time but it was single digit!
Glad you liked the Ford bike,wish I could spend a day with the maker just chatting about stuff,there's always more to it than a picture.

Last one I saw was a water-cooled, 4-cylinder, 2-stroke H1 Kawasaki 500 (for those who don't know, the H1 was built as an air-cooled, 3-cylinder)

I'm assuming the radiator is in the back? (can see ducts in the faux panniers?)
As flatties had a reputation for overheating (I've seen a lot of modern installs work fine though), I wonder how this one goes?

I reckon your right, those panniers look very radiatorish to me. If both panniers were radiators and the free air around the engine she would have a better chance than most to stay cool, mind you traffic might be sporting unless he has a thermo fan hidden away in there somewhere. I cant really see the rad hoses clearly, I wonder if he runs water thru the frame somehow? The instruments look like Jap ones to me, which means they will work!

On a much smaller scale but still on topic ie what a bloke can do in his shed,this guy made me some parts for a front end swap on my TL1000 and sent them over from England,looking for more power he simply went out to his shed fabbed up the necessary parts and fitted a Supercharger to his TL,started out with around 125hp and made it to 200 reliably.

Thing is there not so "notorious" to be fair,at there release a mad French journo had an off breaking both ankles then a couple of poms planted themselves as hedgerow markers the media got into it and the rest is history depends what motorcycle mags you read back in the day,Alan Cathcart rode on on track and wondered what the fuss was about saying "ive had more head shake on a GSXR" storm in a tea cup had mine since 2000 and never once has it had a moment despite some pretty hard riding both on track and road.The bike in clip won plenty of events in British hill climb series both in that form and with no charger fwiw.Always had a chuckle re the TLs reputation lets not forget it won IBOTY back then,fwiw have ridden plenty of Rs and always considered the S a better bet not such a big top end but of little interest on the good roads.

They were everywhere in the early 90's when the big bore road bikes went through a popular phase (in melbourne anyway). These days they are virtually impossible to find, with only 3 R's & S's in total on Bikesales. I wonder why...


And to answer Bevsta007, when I used to go to Calder Park to watch the drags, the S/C Harley drag bikes start to lean badly maybe 2/3rds through the run so its a fair assumption this thing would.

Seeing that pic of a flat head engined bike reminded me of a couple a 454 Chev engined bikes I've seen at car shows in USA. One was actually supercharged. I've got pics but it'll take time to find them in the thousands of pics in my computer.

Hey S.G i know your a Yank and all and love your H.D's but 'Party Time' over here in O.Z used to blow off all the H.Ds off the Calder and Heathcote strips.

From memory it was GSXR1100 or maybe Kwaka ZZR1100 powered plus bored out to 'WHO Knows wot'?

I wouldn't be surprised BF. Bikes are often in a different realm.

That was a Nitro Harley. Helped him with a valve timing issue. Nitro motors take some reverse thinking compared to petrol motors. Add a blower and there is even more reverse thinking. NHRA didn't allow blowers on Nitro Harleys.

Somewhere on AFF I once posted a pic of a Pro-Mod/Pro Extreme Suzuki. It is a 1640 based on the old GS case. As far as brute, rugged bottom end strength they are like the old 426 Mopar Hemis. Both the Star racing and Ward Vortex Pro Stock head are made for that case.

What is interesting about both bikes, the camera shots with the front wheels in the air is pretty much how the bikes run down the full length of the track. The Pro Mod, even with the air shifter the front wheel touches down for a fraction of a second on each shift.

First bike I rode was an H1 Mach III 2 stroke 500cc Kaw, last bike I rode was a ZX10. The ZX10 was immensely quicker and fast and at the same time incredibly civilized. Roll in the throttle in 3rd gear and you become a star gazer.
