I support anyone's right to protest regardless of how inane I think the subject is but I'm absolutely against anyone taking children with them to protests, they're leaving their child wide open for this exact scenario to occur where the parent gets detained and the child is now solo in the city or if it turns violent they'll be caught up in the mess.

People should stop using their children as political weapons, I'm sure said child would rather be at home playing videogames rather than out on the streets of Sydney CBD following Mummabear along in her anti vaxxer campaign.

There's also this - keep in mind I live on the regional outskirts of Melbourne and work in Melbourne, up until a week ago I worked within 3km North of Melbourne CBD in a GREENS electorate

So the perspective I see is people generally love Chairman Dan, once you go past Bendigo I guess the perspective changes as basically Victoria is a two speed state, you have Melbourne and 'not Melbourne' and the 'not Melbourne' gets the short end of the stick.

15 new cases for Australia but no deaths so the CMR is down to 1.4% and active cases to 10.1%.

NZ had 2 new cases and no deaths so the CMR is down to 1.408% and active cases to 8.2%.

The UK had just under 4k new cases so the CMR dropped to 14.674% and active cases rose to 85.1%.

The USA had just under 30k new cases and 1,687 deaths but also passed 80k deaths in total. The CMR dropped slightly to 5.948% and although active cases are now more than 1M they dropped to 77.1%.

Elsewhere, Russia had a 7th straight day with more than 10k new cases; Africa is starting to see an increase in case numbers; Europe as a whole is still getting ~25k new cases / day and South America is still recording more than 15k new cases / day.

I know the whole of Australia is looking forward to eased restrictions but the new case trend for both NSW and Victoria is upward and on that basis, I'd be reluctant to see restrictions eased too much in those States.

Globally, there is talk of major sporting events like F1 restarting in July but I'd be wanting to see significant changes in the current case trends before that even got a moment of thought.

Let's look at the polynomial trend lines for some countries. Firstly, those with less than 5 new cases per 100k of population:



.. of those, only Italy and Canada are trending downward with Brazil climbing quite rapidly and even Spain and Denmark on the increase.

Next is those countries with between 5 and 10 new cases per 100k of population:



.. this shows only the UK in a slight downward trend (although that might be lower weekend reporting) while Sweden and Saudi Arabia are climbing sharply. On the plus side, the curves for Chile and Russia appear to be flattening.

Finally, those countries with more than 10 new cases per 100k of population:



Qatar is climbing at a very steep rate and has been for the last week. Most of the others are either reasonably flat or only slightly upward except Belgium which is on the increase again after a period of being steady.

Whether these are the so-called 2nd waves is hard to determine without looking at a longer time-frame as this is based on the last 21 days only.

Of course Queensland has always had a below average education system (this is demonstrated in data) and I am certain the heat/humidity affects our brains. Throw in parochial attitudes and things are "different" up here.

It seems some of us are unravelling due to the over the top restrictions and the storm trooper tactics used to 'quell the population.'

In American I saw a report where they are releasing criminals from jail due to the virus pendamic and they are locking up citizens who dare to flout the rules such as the hairdresser who opened her shop because in her words, "She needed to feed the kids."

It will take the cops a long time to live down the way they treated the mum protesting about the situation. She shouldn't have had her kid with her, but this is now the norm for protesting - every climate protest is mostly children.

It seems quite startling that the ones calling for the most stringent lockdowns are those who will be unaffected by it - the politicians, bureaucrats, public servants, teachers, the ABC - and it is turning into the have and have nots.

Oh, and NSW and Vic are refusing to let businesses open.

Why is that?

Maybe if they had to foot the bill for the economic cost - now $4 billion a week - they would change their tune.

It seems politicians, bureaucrats and cops are drunk on the power and they are certainly exercising it.

They are acting like the Chinese govmint.

The lady being arrested and separated from her kid were NSW police storm troopers.

Did anyone do a count of the number of officers?

Bureaucracy is taking over. This is very dangerous.

If we don't like what the politicians are doing then we vote them out. We can't do that with bureaucrats.

The NSW premier needs to come out and condemn the actions of NSW police for their behaviour over the treatment of this woman.

And maybe roll a head or two otherwise she will be gone next election.

I reckon she's had the kid there as a political tool, I've got the little one with me they won't arrest me so she goes to try rub it in their faces until it backfires and another woman is the one who ends up arresting her.

The thing with protests is they can go from peaceful to not peaceful in an instant, you can feel the environment in any of these situations, everyone's on edge and its the perfect climate for things to escalate out of control.

Yeah but didn't the public servants squeal when the government tried a wage freeze. All you minimum wage in hospitality can go starve but I'm not giving up my fat salary.

I worked for the PS years ago and it was well accepted we got less money due to job security and conditions. Now they are getting 130% of private wages and still demanding more. Utter management failure and utterly disgusting. What they don't realise of course (like the mine haul truck drivers) is they are setting themselves up to be replaced.

That incident was in Sydney - Vic Police usually turn up in huge numbers at protests in Melbourne, the public order response team, usually getting around on horse back and with the black SUVs.

They were trying to do a wage freeze on state and federal employees, but politicians were exempt from it.

I don't see how thats fair, they'd support it if it included politicians.

FC yes just like the football (?) players who kicked when the executive wanted them to take a 50% cut but gave themselves a 30% cut. Do as I say.... public service wages are still a disgrace though. Politicians salaries should be set in teh constitution as a fixed multiple of the national average wage, 1 - 1.5 sliding scale. Obviously it'll never happen. Afterall it's our money they are spending...
