In the Endura thread I mentioned China is into what I believe it's second generation of utes in our market.

People whinge about 'short' service intervals but 10,000km is ideal.
15,000km is too long and if its 20,000km+ then count on blocked oil galleries and all sorts of other lack of maintenance problems - VZ/VE/VF Commodore HF V6/LFX and L98/L77 engines have issues with their Dexos2 oil and 15,000km service intervals - timing chains and lifter problems anyone? I don't care what anyone says, oil is cheap insurance and the more you do it the better. Quote:

They may be cheap to buy but I bet the resale is terrible. You'd probably be better off buying a Triton or something if you are budget conscious.
I was offered $35k for my 5 year old Ranger XL the other day. Ξ bought it for a fraction over $40k. I've maybe spent 5k in mods. I don't see the GWM getting resale like that. |

Good stuff I say, the chings will at least force Toy/Ford to re address their pricing sooner or later IF they gain some decent enough traction. Franco, as you knon me for a while I'm a V8 luver and a small euro 2.0l T in my use. Having had a Toy 4x4 Dual cab with the mighty powerful D4 (lol) for my daily use the last 5-6yrs incl holidays up north fully loaded they do the job brilliantly - it was my first ownership having one of these and I'll buy another in the future no worries. Was reliable as now handed down to son no2, 200,000 clicks and done rear wheel cyclinders once. Rear shoes wear out quick but that was due to my driving - fit slotted front rotors with good pads the braking improved heaps and where it counts. Heaps of cyclinders are sold for there are HEAPS of them out there last 15yrs as you know. Agreed naddis, re sale would be woeful on these GW utes but those buyers are not fussed about that they had to buy "on price" in any case, a loss from the beginning. I just like more competition in market, come on Hyundai/Kia.

Why would ford and toyota need to change their prices? They are selling in even bigger numbers, stealing sales from the cheaper stuff which is losing sales. Rivers of gold.
People who buy communist vehicles should hang their heads in shame, supporting a regime that is bullying us. |

I agree about not supporting them BUT there is alot of consumers don't see it that way BUT price.
Sooner or later this rubbish won't be and consumers even more will accept their brands. They will take sales from Triton and the other low volume brands growing their footprint. In turn top end will react its the norm.

It will be interesting to see these around. My biggest concern with these pick ups is that Chinese vehicle manufacturing is still pretty bad at quality control and reliability.
The Chinese local brands barely ever honour warranties, and imports into China simply wont (as was specifically said to me from Merc, BMW and Toyota dealers). So the speed at which reliability and known issues are addressed during new model roll outs are not to the speed most established brands can achieve. I'm not surprised though about the tech jump, producing new tech is easy over there... but I'd be really concerned though about their quality levels. Not because the Chinese cant produce high quality stuff (they can and do), but simply because they will slash quality levels if it saves them cash without understanding the consequences. Its part and parcel of doing business over there.

The last attempt by GWC was atrocious, asbestos brake and clutch linings, guarantees that were not guarantees, warranty issues never sorted, certainly couldn't get close to carrying what they were rated for.
Attempt to put trade box on back of cab/chassis, cracked suspension and we hadn't put tools in at that stage. Lease companies wont touch them. |

So the Great Wall has the others in the firing line ....but with only 120kw and 400nm of torque its not going to get close enough to the others to fire a shot .....Dit Duuur .Cant see the skin on a rice pudding having any fear whatsoever

Knew someone who bought a JMC ute, and it's engine died while still under warranty. However the company had since left Australia so no one was covering it and no one had parts.
Managed to get hold of the original selling dealer who luckily did everything they could to help him out. Still took months and months for a new engine to be located. Had a 2.4 petrol motor which is a Mitsubishi clone. BTW these Chinese brands arnt imported by their manufacturers like Ford and Toyota. A third party imports them and takes responsibility for them. The issues lie in the third party being useless when it comes to warranty and parts supply.
