As someone across Fords global models it feels like the Mach-E has been around for ages.

Meanwhile Europe have an Explorer EV hot off the press.

I just received an email from my dealer and you have to ORDER directly through Ford if you want one.

"Please note our dealership will be unable to place you in a queue for a vehicle, and you'll need to register via Ford's reservation system on Ford.com.au."
It’s to protect against currency fluctuations.

Challenger Demon thread is way betterer.

It could be worse, it could be a fish mouthed hunch back smoothed off turd like a Tossler. Why don’t they all just make EV’s look like real cars, and not trying so hard to look different that they just end up looking pig dog ugly?

At least the mach e looks more like a traditional car. It looks pretty reasonable in the metal, but it’s nowhere near as good looking as a regular mustang.

It does have an interesting spaceship sound when you reverse it though. It’s kinda funny.

Well, you were the one who wanted a V8 or Barra.

To be fair, if I was driving a 13 year old Territory, I'd want the trip to be over as soon as possible too. (only joking, hope you have a sense of humour).

It's fun driving fast cars. And last year, when a P plater ran a red light and my 39 weeks pregnant wife and I were in the car, having the power on tap allowed me to floor it to avoid getting T boned. That power saved maybe mine and my wife/unborn child that night.

I've made this post public so you can see it. The Miami nor my Barra nor Coyote would've responded fast enough.

I'll be ****ed why they slap a Mustang badge on this. If it were a proper Mustang I'd get it but wow.

Don't worry, they even have two different vehicles with the same name, sold in the same market (Ford Explorer and the Ford Explorer).

Also given this thing is an EV this should be merged with the thread in the alternative power section.

Emissions standards in the US. Average fleet emissions. It allows for the V8 to exist longer. The same reason GM wants to do a Corvette EV SUV.

They had to because so much money was spent saving this once off course e-Max,
Ford is doing it again with VW based BEV Explorer and companion Capri crossover.

The big issue with Mach E is that they just can’t build enough at the Mexican plant
to cover America and Europe while the plant production in China is just a joke.
Chinese buyers have voted with their wallets and bought Tesla Y……..

Not questioning the need for this car, and do believe that it's a fantastic car overall, I just wish they left the Mustang name off it.

I know why they did it, but the Mustang has always had a very specific identity, a big, long bonnet coupe or convertible. Putting the name on something completely different does the real one a disservice.

Think of it this way, Porche styled a 911 influenced four-door sedan, but they didn't dare name it one! In the process, they didn't dilute the 911 heritage.

Right from the beginning, I always thought "Galaxy" or Galaxy Mach E would have been more appropriate.

Then they'd have to rename the regular Mustang as Galaxy.

The 911 uses a lot less fuel and are going hybrid. If Mustang went hybrid, they probably wouldn't need the Mach E. But that idea is dead.

The Challenger had to go EV because they didn't have a nameplate EV.

The original project was transferring electrical systems from Focus EV to a new E-Max
the money Ford spent rescuing the thing turned it into more of a Tesla Y competitor.

So yeah, Ford is now selling out its storied nameplates to ensure the new BEVs succeed
using a name like Galaxy would not have worked 1) because it’s Galaxie in USA and
2) Galaxy in Europe is a large 3-row mini van. They needed a family name that was recognisable
and jumping on Mustang was all too easy.

The approval to use Mustang came down to Bill Ford (his name on the company) and continued with Explorer and Capri.

The i7 will be released in October 2023, pre orders already in for many governments in EU countries and some Asian countries. Australia have no orders in at present and not expected until end of current lease period in 2025.

Can't understand why manufacturers persist with this look of an iPad mounted on a magnetic mount is attractive Even Tesla's look is a bit clueless. You would think with car designers imagination, endless amounts of beautiful or classic lines to work with, something more than the current crap could be offered.

This looks like some home baked half assed effort.

Someone thinks it looks good, and a higher-up someone approved it.
My opinion is that it is ugly and distracting, but it is the 'fashion' and common to a lot of current cars. Unfortunately.

Easy answer. If you plonk a big screen on a post sticking out from the dash it's much cheaper than redesigning the dash for every model....even if it does look like an afterthought.

Then perhaps they can ponder why their product which is pretty much a mirror to the cheaper competitor doesn't sell.

Guess some of the hassle is whatever someone creates that is new or exciting, China just rip it off. Then if you challenge China over it they get offended.

Who wants to go back to small screens and carrying a SydWay or MelWay or UBD. I want a big screen with maps clearly visible. Bugger those small screen. They are obsolete. Even my GTF has a big screen for the time. My BA screen looks tiny compared to it and useless as you need to move your eyes off the road to see it. Bigger screens are in your line of sight and are safer.

It is not a pretty car but good to see Ford in the fight, im not an early adopter so I look forward to the increased competition.

Higher than I had hoped. Guess I'll stick with my Teslas for now. Bigger, faster, better charging network and cheaper. They're about $10k more than the equivalent Tesla. And also more than the Hyundai Ioniq as well.

Hope they succeed though. I would've loved to have one.

Just with a better infotainment system.

Better car then the Model 3 / Y.

Better car in what way though? Teslas are bigger, handle better, drive better, accelerate faster and are built very well these days.

Only reason I'd buy one is because it is a Ford. An emotional reason than purely based on logic of features.

What’s “one pedal driving function”?
No brake pedal?
Similar to a Linde hydrostatic forklift?

Yes. The car applies regen instead of the mechanical brakes. Recovers energy that would be lost by braking.

It will bring the car to a complete stop as well so you don't have to press the brake unless in an emergency or if you didn't judge the regen correctly.

They look ok in the metal. Nowhere near as good looking as a real Mustang though.

But at least it doesn't look like a polished dog turd like the Tesla's do.
