All XR to XY steering boxes were manual. The power steer system was added on ram set-up.
XA onwards had power steering boxes. Dr Terry |

I got my power steer box rebuilt at a transmission joint. Either they or any decent mechanic should be able to do it.

I've got an XF steering box in my XR. I had it reconditioned at Prestige Power Steering in Thomastown.

We recently sent an older Holden box to a rebuilder in Western Sydney.
It came back nice and clean, with a bag of old parts attached. Trade cost was near $1000. However it was nearly worse in operation than before the “rebuild”. It may simply be, that machinist skills to make a new input shaft and ball nut (or proficiently reclaim old ones) are no longer practically accessible. TLDR: Proceed with caution! |
