im rebuilding my 2l pinto motor
doing a few mods while im at it I already have a mild crow cam and extractors Im thinking while i rebuild it im going to: Bore out 40 thou Flat top pistons to suit new conrods hardened valve seat and bigger valves (unleaded) double valve springs head ported balance bottom end lighten flywheel balance crank then i will source all the parts for efi and do that afterwards aswell I think thats all, if anyone can give me advice on changes i should make plz tell me. Also if any of you know specifics about bigger valves etc, i was going to leave it up to machine shop to source the valves?? and also with the head being ported, ive heard i shouldnt polish it? and what should i do with intake and exhaust ports, specifics? bearing in mind i will have sierra efi manifold on there soon. And also if theres anything thats overkill in there let me know is the bore size good? and should i get double valve springs etc? its just for street/weekend driver thanks Ryan |

Hey,
This is just my opinion but if it were I I wouldn't bother about getting larger valves. The escort valves are already fairly large. And if you’re going to efi it I would strongly recommend you don't get over size valves. The best thing to do regarding valves and efi is to actually fill in the port! 40 thou is fine but you might find your engine has already been bored out for some reason. Get the engine rebiulder to check it out. If you get double valve springs you might find you have to purchase a different cam. Someone else might want to verify that. You can get valves, over size or standard, from Burton Power in the UK. Not sure of anyone local. Maybe try ERR or Racetune and I would recommend you speak to these guys regarding your build. um ,why not get bigger valves, the problem with pintos is the inlet ports are too big and incorrectly angled/shaped for flow, dont touch the inlet if at all fill them and port them properly ,port the exhaust to get as much gas out as quick as possible, and fit 44 inl,38 exhaust valve which is group 1 spec,an a nice fast road RL32 or along those lines but be carefull with the computer you use when going to efi.
Im just getting my parts togeather for an injected turbo pinto ......cant wait. There's a few fors and againsts for the polishing of ports ,but I wouldnt polish inlet ports on my heads again ,but exhaust is fine. Its suposed to atomise the fuel for a better mix etc...One of my heads is ported and polished(inlets and chambers) and goes quite well. |

Parts you should try and get:
Sierra Injection Conrods for their wider h beam. Cost F...all and better than the Pinto items Sierra Injection Head: Again relatively cheap and better design than the standard Pinto head. Dowell the flywheel to the Crank. Good if you want the engine to get to 7500revs safely. Vernier Cam pully High flow Oil pump
