In my experience, they don't want anything usually over 3 pages, formatted in an easy to read manner, whereby they can see all the important stuff without having to sift through a heap of crap. If they don't see what they want or nothing catches their eye straight away, they move on to the next one without getting all the way through it. As I said, there are people who do up CVs professionally, it may be worthwhile speaking to them if you feel your cv isn't even getting looked at.
