Default 99 au fairlane v8 exhaust problems

hey all,
the middle bit of the exhaust on my 99 v8 fairlane crapped itself last year, so i replaced the centre bit, which cost close to 300 bux. now the problem is that the middle muffler is rubbing on the tailshaft and making an annoying noise while driving.
i took it back to the place i got it from, they said its a faulty exhaust, and the muffler is shitting itself, but they need my receipt so they can send it back to the company they got it from, and then order in a new one no problems.

only problem i cant find my reciept, ive looked everywhere to no avail.
So im asking, because i dont wanna spend another $300 atm, can i get the middle muffler hacked out, and just replaced with a straight thru pipe, so it doesnt rub ?
