Default Buying a used car, whats the deal with VIV?

Well this morning went to go look at a black BA XR6. The owner of the car was honest enough to tell me that the car has had a VIV? although he said it was for the drivers door that had been replaced due to and accident. I went to look at the build date thats usually in the drivers door side jam, but couldnt find one.

Heres wheres im confused, I thought that VIV was for when a car is written off, and the owner says it wasnt written off. Oh and this is in VIC.

Any information regard VIV or anything to do with it would be appericiated
