Certainly seems unfair, but hey, it's the law....don't think fairness really comes into it much! .

Each state has its own interpretations but just because the traffic act states something does not automatically make it true or enforceable.

In QLD the (//) signs according to the traffic act and several HP officers I checked with was supposed to mean 100km/h. It was not until they lost several speeding cases due the (//) meaning end of speed limit at a federal and international level that the (//) signs were removed.

Another was the requirement to have a manual licence to drive a BA Falcon 4 speed auto as it is possible to change the gears manually.

Police do as they are told and sometimes what they are told is incorrect. Of course they are still Police and therefore will ignore your protests and do what they are told......
