Why is the Focus a massive seller in other parts of the world though? Surely if the transmission issues led to poor sales here it would have done so elsewhere?

I would again say the market perception of the Ford brand has been hugely shaped by 50 odd years of the Falcon being the core product. The same applies to Holden with 36 odd years of the Commodore.
