Those old Volvos are becoming classics and IMO will probably start to rise in value in the future.
I bought a Peugeot 406 several years ago with the same running gear as your 306. Milkshaked trans, bloody near impossible to find a replacement because its such a common issue apparently. Had to by a complete un road worthy neglected car for a good trans and part the rest out.
