Default what the hell is that noise

hey guys
I'm hoping that someone can help me out with this one.
For the last couple of weeks my car has been making a high pitched squealing noise when ever the car first takes off and stops once its hit somewhere around the 3000rpm mark. Once its hit that mark it wont happen again until the car has been turned off for an hour or so than started up again. This morning when I was driving I figured that I'd plant my foot so the car would drop back a gear and quickly hit the rpm needed for the noise to dissapear, but the weirdest thing happened. The car sounded like it dropped back a gear and the rpm increased but it took about 4 seconds after this for the car to actually feel like it dropped back a gear (hope that makes sense lol).
what the hell is going on????
