Compare the UK numbers. Despite hitting >20k new infections per day, there are 10-fold fewer deaths per day than the first time they hit 20k infections per day in Oct 2020. It's early days yet and deaths are likely to climb a little given there's a 2 week lag, but it's clear the vaccine significantly reduces mortality.

And that's a fail in your book? Considering the first attempts at mRNA vaccines were failures, I think Pfizer and Moderna have done pretty well. It's a great example of what we can achieve when the people are put before bureaucracy. If the bureaucrats had their way, we'd be waiting another 5 years or more.
