Been tossing up getting a ride on mower for a while and would appreciate any insights as to decent brands/models.

Me being me, I would stretch your budget to that $3000 mark for this -

Being brand new, you don't inherit someone else's trouble. The only thing is it has a "Rover" engine on it, as in a made-in-China no name engine. 38-inch cutting deck, and 5+5 year warranty.
