no easy answers, just like any other addiction, the person needs to want to stop first.
Get him the whitlams album with "blow up the pokies" on it

Very hard call ,mate . I used to work with a guy cladding houses who said "having a beer doesn't worry me , I could give it up today" (carton a day guy), BUT if we weren't packed up and heading for the bottle shop by 3-30 , you couldn't talk to him without being abused. Like YAW said , HE has to realise he's got a problem first . Most of all , sounds like he has a "good mate" and thats a start . Norm

as said your mate has to first realise he has a problem.
I couldn't help but notice you also started a thread about how you enjoy online poker. |

Dob on him!
Have a quiet chat with anyone else that is close to him... his parents, girlfriend, other mates etc. Perhaps they two have noticed a problem but didn't realise how serious it was becoming. Work out a way to talk to him – call some helplines and get some information so you can offer him a plan or solutions. He may actually think its normal to behave this way and might not understand what he is doing to himself. Hang in there and be his mate – sounds like he needs one. Just don’t loan him any money and keep your wallet in sight at all times.
