Default Unichip going in.

The unichip is finally going in the falcon on friday, just in time for the dyno day, very excited. I know that everyone thinks that the edit is better but that would have cost me at least $800 more, so maybe later down the track. I will let everyone know how it goes. Also, has anyone had a reground camshaft put in their AU. Wade don't do cams for AU's anymore and Surecams said they would do it and everything would be ok, but I was hoping someone had experience with a company in Melbourne. Cheers fellas, see you on Saturday, Joel

The Unichip can be a good thing in certain application and when tuned by someone who knows what they are doing. Look at Whoosha's XR8, fairly stock and unichip and it's run a 13.77 from memory.

mate the only advice i can give is, don't get it tuned to 98 ron fuel.the best i found with mine when i had it,was when it was tuned to 95 and i used run 98 in it.
i eventualy got it tuned to 98 ,and had no end of dramas with it pinging.it was very sensitive to what (supposedly) 98 ron fuel i put in it.

Your tuner must have stuffed up.

I had a unichipped falcon that was tuned with 98 in the tank it ran faultlessly and made great power over stock.

I totally agree with your comments fs5. Youll get more power with 98 but a safer tune with 95 ron.Tuner didnt stuff up because the best time to get a tune is in hot weather for safety .A tune done in cold weather then driven in hot weather will show air fuel ratios leaning out.

Gonna get it tuned for 95 octane, then I can always put 98 octane in it if I have to. Its going to be interesting as i'm going to have it dyno'ed on fridays when the unichip is getting tuned and then on saturday at the dyno day so we can see how big a difference there is in the numbers.

Heheh, yes Im the famous Unichip-hater(TM). I suppose I should fill you in - basically my XR8 had one, and it made it run like crap, so much so I thought I had done a valve spring it was that bad. I have no idea why the chip decided to go nuts, but the moment it was removed from the car, the car ran 110% better. In all honesty I think Unichips are ok but seriously, if you notice ANYTHING starting to go funny, get it checked and make sure the tuner is absolutely top notch.

If it's all you can afford mate and your willing to take the risk then go for it, My 347 AU runs off a 4 year old chiptourqe chip (put in by previous owner), sure it doesn't run perfectly but without it I wouldn't be game to turn the key! Personally i'd keep saving for an edit

Good Luck either way!
