Hi guys, ive searched the forum and read 100's of posts, but i cannot still workout how to get the stupid standard tapedeck/radio out of my AU 1.
I cut up a coat hanger into two piecies, bent them over into a U shape, then put the ends into the 4 little holes. I wiggled around for 2 hours and the stereo would slightly click out a bit, but i have no where to grab onto it to pull it out. Anyone have a diagram? Its killing me.

it's hard to explain, but you gotta sorta push them in until they clip in and bend them in towards the middle of the head unit and it should then pull out. bit of a pain in the a** but it works. it nearly drove me insane trying to get it out.

i pull the ashtray out. (it just pulls out)
and pull the bent coathangers with one hand, and feed my hand up underneath the headunit through the ashtray hole and push it from the back.

Sometimes the pins holding these in jam as well and you cannot use the wire 'thingies' but using the wire insert both at same time and push together to open the clips and it should move, Stereo shop was unable to get mine out first time as well as the clips had broken, we had to do some very manual work....

Coat hangers suck. I ended up using steel BBQ kebab skewers!

Can be tricky. Sometimes you have to get one side at a time.
If you have a few allen keys that just fit in the holes I would try them as they don't bend like the coathangers. If you are close to Langwarrin I have the Ford special removal tools, but they still don't guarantee an easy removal. |

I've been attempting to remove my radio for 3 months and I'm hoping to win in the long term.
It's not going to beat me but can anyone supply a diagram showing how it is actually held in, by clips , pins etc. So I and others can see what we are up against. Many Thanks !!!! |

- most of the units that are damaged and won't come free with "coat hangers" are ones that have been fukked up by someone using .... you guessed it ... "coat hangers". Use the proper tool and the unit won't get damaged - if you are too stingey to buy one, go to your local Ford dealer - they will remove it for you in less than a minute and probably not even charge you. |

I used 4 long series allen keys with the ball on the bottom, if u get them all around the same size that just fit in the hole gently push in till the ball pops in to the lock then just pull out stero, coathangers are a no good and very frustrating !!!

Allen keys, or anything that dosn't bend will work a treat. Coat hangers are a pain to use.

Get the proper tool, or you might stuff the clips. Autobarn removed mine for free when I asked for the tool.
