Default Speed Sensor Error

Hi All

I've been having some speedo issues with my AUII Forte lately, the speedo has been inaccurate and flailing wildly on occasion.
The mechanic has put the diagnostic scan tool on my car and it reports a 'speed sensor error'.
Does anyone know what could be causing the error?
