At the moment the GF is looking at a 1994 Toyota Soarer GT-L. The car is from a second hand importer in Boronia. She really likes the car and after driving a few it's by far the best.
We would like to take the car to an import mechanic to have a good look over the car to make sure were not getting dudded, although after driving it i can't see any real problems, only that the fluid and brake pads need changing. Is the right way to go about it to say to the dealer that we are interested and would like to have it checked out before agreeing on a price or Agree on a price first, only on the condition that the car is mechanically sound and we wont have to fork out thousands more after a few months. Thank you for reading my long post and hope some of you have some ideas for me.

Have you considered servicing and replacement part costs and their availability?

Car yards usually wont let you get a car checked out unless you commit to buying it. Then they'll say you can back out of the deal if your mechainic finds a major fault, if not it's a done deal .
If there's any little faults they will want to fix it to get the sale. At least thats been my experience. This just stops people having a car checked out then for no reason not buying the vehicle.

I would make sure it has an Australian Compliance Plate before i do anything.Check too make sure it can be regoed and insured in Australia.it is a gray import so I would do my home work before committing to anything.
