I just changed my brake pads and rotors.
When I tried to remove the old pads there was quite a lot of red goo behind the pad part that touches the caliper almost like glue or even thick red paint. The old pads I removed had heaps of meat left on them so i think they must have been changed at some point prior to me buying the car. Question is when i replaced the pads was i supposed to put same goo on? Is it safe to drive without it? I've never seen it mentioned before on the forums.

Anti squeal for sure. I use it all the time. Drys like a kind of rubber. Its good to get rid of any brake noise, but not something totally thats nessessary.

Does it look like this?
Filing the handbrake shoes http://www.fordforums.com.au/showpos...2&postcount=68 I use anti-squeal spray every pad change. Brakes are pretty quiet. All the best with it. GK

no it comes in a small red bottle or tube depends on what brand it is.... and you squeeze it out onto the back of the pad its sort of like silicone but a bit more runny and it dries like rubber.....helps dampen vibration etc.....

CRC anti Brake Squeal. I Used it on the XF Ghia. Its awesome stuff.
No Brake noise from the ol girl for last 14 years. Put it on back of Brake pads and allow to go tacky then put pads in... Puts a Rubber type barrier between the Pad and Piston to eliminate noise from metal to metal.... |

A mate of mine in the UK had a Moto Guzzi motor bike. If you know the bikes you will know they have quite a deep sump on them. He had an accident and hit a pedestrian that was not looking where they were going. Both he and pedestrian where hurt quite badly. When he got out of hospital he was told he could buy his bike back off the wreckers quite cheaply. So he got it back only to find a large lump of decaying human flesh wrapped round the sump. It was disgusting!!
