High Oil Pressure???????????

Lately a few times while idling the oil pressure has crept up into the red then dropped back a bit, crept up again before dropping back to 2/3rd where it usually is.

It's normally at halfway at idle and 2/3 under load.

There are no other symptons (apart from breaks which I don't think is a connection) and the oil is a good colour and good level.

oil pressure sensor, mines buggered too.
Dont know where its located though or what to do for that matter.

Yeh it's scaring the out of me though.

It does actually go up when u accelerate.

But then it doesn't. Could it be anything else

It could be, but the sensor is the most common suspect.

Mine is doing the same thing ...... have had it checked out ..... dodgy sensor. Unfortunately they are alittle expensive and prone to suddenly deciding to stop working properly .... so I am told.

What things could actually cause high oil pressure??

And aren't the sensors fake?

Bad earths can cause it as well.

Sensor isn't fun to replace either ... and when is just as difficult ... putting a T-piece in and running an aftermarket sender for another gauge.

Yes oil pressure does rise when accelerating ... idle mine sits a fraction above the 25psi mark (fluctuates a fraction with the lumpy idle) ... and on throttle with load it is near the 50spi mark on the gauge (dead centre)

On my family car(holden HG wagon 308 4sp manual) on idle(about 600rpm) its sits on 20psi and when in neutral and revved to 2000rpm sits on 40psi and when driven on street normally and revved to 3000rpm then shifting it makes about 65-70psi under normal load(also the motor is worked so its not to much oil pressure for the motor) I am to believe that oil pressure "should" rise with the revs just like everything else that is in sync with the revs.

Common problem. This is the main problem of oil pressure issues.

Have fun getting to it, just think its near where your coil packs are on that side of the motor.

Tell me about it .... I just took my factory oil pressure switch out to put the T-piece in place to mount the new sender as well ... wasn't that fun ... although this time I had the use of a hoist which made it a fraction easier (after removing the oil filter for better access).
