3inch exhaust .How to make it quieter ?

My old XH only had a press bent system too, don't underestimate a good press bent system. It ran some spectacular numbers on really slippery street radials and only a 3.45 gear set. It also made some serious ponies at the wheels.

The 14.5 time was with the 2/1/4 inch squash. I am hoping to go a bit quicker with the 3 inch at the track and I am taking a gamble.

Even if you do, you'll have no idea whether it was the exhaust that did it or weather temps etc.
My bet is that it won't do a thing.

When I ported my head If I saw any restriction it was taken out. I see the headers as an extension of the port and where they meet hopefully scavenging occuring as each pulse pulls the other out and to the collector/catalyitc converter.This is where I believe that the bigger cat can flow A BIT more like a true no cat old school setup.It is a step in the right direction.

Of course it is, if, and that's a big IF, the cat is a restriction in the first place. From what R&D has been done by most exhaust gurus, the standard Coon cats flow more than bucket loads for I6's up to ~170kw at the treads.

The truth for each person is if they perceive a gain.Whether it be 1/4 mile or dyno.

Perceived gain means nothing to me, I like to see real numbers backed by pretty hard evidence.

I have a failing auto box at the moment so If it is a simple solenoid then the car will have another crack at wsid in slightly cooler weather.

The cats may be good for 170rwkws but an offroad pipe without a cat may show some benefit for drag racing purposes.Not for street of course.

Thanks mate, it seems that too many people think that bigger is always better, yet they give no thought to what the real restrictions may be, the mufflers.

I talked to Jon the other day.I think the aurion was to keep a fine line of power and keeping the family happy.I think the mid life crisis is still there but of less priority.When I call him though I think he gets a bit revved up..heheh. I wonder how long it will stay unmodified for?
