Default Good 1st car for my sister?

After reading how bad EXA's are ( I thought they were OK) I was wondering what you all thought was a better car. My 16 y.o sister wants a coupe for under $3000
Eg Paseo, S coupe, EXA, celica, ???

Which are the best and what have I forgotten? I'm trying to get her into a hatch becuase there's so much more choice.

Thanks in Advance.

buy an xa-xc coupoe... she might get a roller lol best coupe you can buy...
personally stear clear of them... if you can, go for a nissan nx coupe, although anything like the above mentioned will more than likely be flogged and be falling apart...

I would think the Celica would be a solid choice - late 80's early 90's
http://www.carsales.com.au/used-cars...500&state_id=0

They shared alot of running gear with the Camry, so it's like a better looking Camry = relatively reliable.
Otherwise buy a nice XA-XC coupe, so you can borrow it often!!

My missus has a celica for sale at the moment.

http://www.tradingpost.com.au/Default.aspx

If you define your search to a
1988 Celica
and
$2650

"I'm not sure how to get the proper link up directly to the page with her car, but this will work. I think there may be people looking at it this week but depending when your sister is looking at purchasing".

Get an RA60-RA65 celica, they were great cars and cost bugger all now. Then when she is done with it, you can drop a Lexus 4L V8 into it, it's been done before.

Doing that to an RA28 right now...

A Daihatsu Charade 1300 is "bullet proof", latter model, lighter, easier for young woman to park...My son has one [run around car] be bought from a female 200,000 + on clock and drives like new, burns NO oil...
This car has not been spared, but has had good maintenance....
Though I don't really like fwd's she is a young woman and would drive it different. Easy parking, driving and economy would be her priorities...
I would talk her into a 4 door on these rocket pocket cars though..
Insurance can be an issue with coupes and young drivers...

Get a good one (a hatchback model that hasn't been thrashed or modified by retards) and you'll love it for ever. Mine embarassed a few V8's and turbos at track days.

Wish I still had mine or a schmick example of an SiR import.

FFS this is a Ford forum and none of you thought of the KF laser . These are a reliable little car parts are easiy and cheap to obtain if needed and the were the first laser with the sloping back instead of the bubble. they can be picked up cheaply and if you get a live wire an S or a ghia they have a lively 1.8 injected engine . true they are not the most stylish car but hardly ugly either and an ideal 1st car

an XR6 on gas (SVI) it will cost about the same to run (if you don't flog it) and be so much more comfortable

thanks, but an xr6 on gas...... i wish!

i am like tight on dough at the moment and looking into being a security guard(gotta do a course though grr), so.. im really in need of transport for work, when it comes along! next month is my only chance to score a $2,000 loan!

so other than an xr6, and a charade, what do ya'll think about mitsubishi colts? or a laser etc?

taking into consideration (although pushing it!) the car needs to have reg & rwc.

I had a G11 Charade 1985. 998cc, 5 speed. It had almost 300,000Ks on it when I sold it and it was still going strong.
You should be able to pick up a later G100 model for around the money your quoting.
Good luck, they will go forever.

Sorry about the Hijack.......Maybe your sister should look at a Charade. A G100 CR has all the friut, is a 1.3 lt and is a 2 (3) door.

2 k will see a late model gold gti series one or an early series 2 bought from the auctions with a slight hit and some repair work on the road under 4k , worth the effort as there is little to out perform them in the class . Add a blower ( like mine) and frighten rexes
