hey ive got 71 mk2 cortina and i wanna convert to a pinto 2l, but i want to retain the original auto transmission. do i need to create bellhousing adaptor in order for it to fit correclty? or willt he bellhousing fit without the adaptor?
any help appreciated |

dont quote me but i think its gonna need a different bell housing seeing as how the pinto is an OHC and taller than 1600/1300 escort cortina motor
and another thing is you might have to move the radiator about 35mm front ways for it to work with the 2 lt. again dont quote me

so you have the kent engine at the moment?
not sure about auto, but for manual, the bell housing matches the 2 ltr. it shoudl match for auto aswell but dont qoute me either lol |

found out on the weekend. that the auto bell housing is a little different around the starter motor and wont fit for a manual box up unless cut and welded

so your saying i will need to fabricate the bellhousing so it will fit? what if the engine comes with a bellhousing would it be easier to fabricate an adaptor?

yeah it wold be easier to fabricate an adaptor plate. as sterling said i know the 1600 manual gearbox bolted straight so i am surprised the auto doesnt. to be certain i would give the guys at twin cam services a ring. they can tell u just about anything u want to know
