I took my car in for the clutch change this morning.
They were going to install the exedy XR6 kit and I expected all to be well. Job was to be $600 fully installed. The phonecall comes. Bad news Clutch fork - worn Clutch cable - starting to wear Some good news Firewall - okay Bill goes from $600 to $850. Later on in the day, the phone rings again. The guy who installed my clutch, used EB-D bits! Firewall, clutch etc, etc. When they went to install the 6-bolt clutch gear, it wouldn't fit. No wonder the clutch felt weak and wore so darn quick. I wonder how many bits were also second hand! Was I cut or what! So I call the guy who did the manual conversion and asked him why he installed E-series bits. "It was all I had!" UNBELIEVABLE! He displayed a total inability to process why I was angry. I rang the clutch place back, who'd found out the price of an original Ford flywheel, and low and behold, the price jumps from $850 to $1100. NOT HAPPY JAN! GK

I'd love to sell this car, but I actually really like it. I guess it owes me a good run now! LOL! At least it's on LPG! LOL! At least I'm laughing about it now! LOL! GK

You can get a new yella terra shater proof/light weight for that sort of money. Give VPW in melbourne, A1 perfomance in perth or rocket industries in sydney a call. Cheers Mick. |

Bloody hell GK, not good news at all.
Hopefully this will be the last of the troubles. I'd check/question the first price jump. I know for a fact an AU clutch cable from ford is just under $60. I replaced it on mine when it all went to s&^t. Cheers

It's so dam hard to find a good mechanic you can trust to do the right thing these days. I would take the old clutch and thow it threw his shop window late at night

GK..I feel your pain mate. I am probably the most unluckiest owner on the forum with nearly everything breaking and being replaced. Take my advice get new ford parts wherever you can.Youll pay a bit more but the car will last longer.

I just needed the car back. It's amazing how much juggling and organisation needs to be done around only having one car. Cheers, GK

Got the car back and drove it to work this morning.
Amazing what the right gear can do! Gearshifts are smoother, clutch actually feels lighter. I'm certainly glad as the wallet is also considerably so! GK

Good to hear you're happy with it GK. Wasn't the guy that did the original a mate of ClassicAU's? Hope he comes to the party with some form of compensation for the dramas he's caused.

Well here's the 500km update on the new clutch.
Gearshifts are heaps smoother, and you may well remember my lament over the diff clunking that I had. Well, with new (proper AU clutch) installed, and diff clunks almost non existant. Instead of almost every single change clunking, you only get the odd one from first to second. Beautiful. This new clutch makes driving the car, even in peak hour heaps of fun. It should have always been this way though. The clamping pressure of the e-series unit, for the AU, was rubbish. Wrong bits for the car, they did a sub-standard job, pure and simple. GK
