Default No Stamp Duty on New cars for Bushfire victims

http://www.theaustralian.news.com.au...-12377,00.html

Quote:
The Victorian Government announced it would waive stamp duty on replacement homes and cars.
Quote:
Stamp duty on replacement cars will also be waived, up to the first $1050.

Treasurer John Lenders said this would exempt people from paying any stamp duty on a new Australian-built car.

The waivers do not apply to commercial cars or investment and holiday properties.
So what if someone wants a Statesman or Caprice that is actually built in China? Do they have to pay stamp duty?

Hopefully the qualification regime is good, otherwise there will be more of those scabs claiming to be from the area and crying poor, like they did with trying to claim $$ from the red cross.

See on the news today people are ringing up real estate agents asking if any cheap land is available as it is all burnt. Probably not really a good time to be posing those sorts of questions when some owners of such lots havent even been laid to rest yet.
