Default cents/gallon cents/litre

Ladies/Gents

I had a bit of a somewhat alcohol fueled argument at a drinking hole a few weeks ago...

the topic was when did the petrol stations move from cents per gallon to cents per litre.

i know we went to decimal currency around Feb 1966.

the argument was that it all changed in 1966 servo's went to cents per litre at the same time.

My argument was well speedos didnt change from MPH to KMH till around late 71-1972

So i think fuel changed to metric around then, maybe even later.....

And the last thing alcohol or achohol?? ( i prefer either, both give me the same result haha)

1976
By the end of 1976, all packaged goods were required to be labelled in metric sizes, and the following were also converted to metric: the air transport industry, food energy, petrol pumps, machine tools, electronic and electrical engineering appliance manufacturing.

And that is from a government website.

I can't offer any more evidence than all the others, but I will answer your second question, as no-one else has yet.....
