Geez that's a nice old premium for LPG, I guess at the rates Petrol's going at it will pay for it's self pretty quick.
It might convince Ford to upgrade their E-Gas a bit too.

I was under the impression that the 2007 Falcon would have the new LPG system that actually produced more power than the petrol one (185kw).

$3900 for a commodore with the fuel system removed and LPG stuff added?
it'd wanna be a damn special LPG system, otherwise i'd go and pay my $2000 for every other system out there!

Thats what I thought. Well I havent really read the article, but that price does seem expensive for an LPG system.

Isnt the BA falcon suposed to superior now but the commodore has still sold more. So basically they can charge whatever they like cause people will still buy it.

LPG is going to get more and more popular as petrol gets more and more expensive. Diesel isn't exactly a great alternative, it costs more then PULP and the economy gain isn't THAT great. The only reason diesel is so great in Europe is because, last time I was there, petrol = $2.70/litre and diesel = $1.20/litre.
How about an E-Gas V8?

And as LPG becomes a popular alternative than petrol then companies using the LPG technology can charge more to offer it. Holden can charge that much and get away with it so why not? Its not as if they are gonna jump camp because Ford offers it for a lower price.

Holden relies on high compression and premium fuel, so I expect they have modify things quite a bit. Ford took a while to get things right, so Holden is probably factoring in fat, in case things go wrong in the field.
As for LPG, the taxman is introducing new taxes on LPG to discourage clean alternatives. (They say even up BTU differences, but with valves wearing out and hotter heads= more gasket issues), it takes a LOT of km's to make it worthwhile. ACCC too sleepy to explain why Canberra LPG prices (0.44 ltr) is a 4 cents more than Sydney and 9 cents more than Victoria. I think China buys it for a whole lot less than that. A Natural gas compressor for the house will become increasingly attractive if things dont get better. |
