Default Truck drivers... help?

A friend and I were wondering what the cable on the sides of extendable trailers(semis) is for??? The cable looks similar to clothes line and sometimes has a spring attaching it to the frame of the trailer...

actually you sort of guessed it yourself - the industry is trying to clean up its image and so is now providing clothes lines for the drivers :

no idea, maybe ask in the truck thread.

I should explain myself a lil bit better. The wire is like a bike chain wire. looks like stainless steel, runs the length of only the extendable trailers.

You mean general freight? I work with tankers and all I can think of is for the rails that lift up when you climb up ontop.

The only thing stopping the trailer from moving would be the air lines wouldn't it?

Someone show me what this is?

yeah it is only if the air suzicoils/airlines are hooked up that the park brakes would release on the trailer. only part of the brake system that would be affected if the electrical suzi coil/line wasn't fitted would be the trailers ABS system (if applicable), but that shouldn't stop the trailer from moving.

i'm talking bout on larger trailers here, not smaller ones with electrical brakes.
