Default Recommend Mechanic for Probe

G'day to all

Can someone please recommend Mechanic for Ford Probe. I'm sick of being stuff around by Mechanics who have less knowledge of the car then me lol

Its long story as to whats happened though I need help in area of
engine timing and ignition.

The Mechanic must have immense knowledge of probes, due to model of the car finding mechanic for probe has been like finding water in desert though im very confident is not impossible and someone out there knows all the in and outs.

Thanks in Advance

Harris

What models share the same engine? If you have a few models to go by it would be easier. The probe was not a common car here.

I don't want to get into the story but here it goes.
I had to replace the water pump on it so I got that replaced lets say with help of few mates.
Then some how my mate stuff the timing on it, after this I spent fair bit $$$ getting it back on the road the mechanic who did job didn't know S****T and ever since the car is not starting straight away, have to crank it at least minimum twice before the engine fires.
I have changed many things on it like spark plug distributor, spark plug leads and and few othe bits and pieces had major service done 500kms ago and still same after change fuel filter aswell.

The car has done 125...kms apprx I have had since it had about 90... Kms was genuine one owner car with full service books by Ford including purchase docs ! Bought from sydney drove to melb ... lets say before all this everything was perfect.

Purchased the car for my better half so no trashing or giving it hard time.( not that i trash my cars, just making a point)
I have bought it too keep it permantly therefore I need someone who knows these cars and has great knowledge of them.

One of my mates is an apprentice at ford he hasn't been much help either I thought about taking it to ford to get it fixed leave the car to them but I don't want to sell my leg for it lol.

Already finding parts and then $$$ figures on them are quite expensive. I bought leads for $145 thats after my discount.

I'm happy to spend money to get it fixed A1 like it was but I want to spend it wisely... not by mechanic taking wild guess and emptying my savings

Cheers
Harris

Sounds like the timing belt may a be a tooth or two out, sometimes those engines can be a little bit fiddley to get timing 100% i seen plenty of guys time them up wrong hey.....Id suggest you get the timing belt checked to see if its been fitted properly as the problem is only there since the w-pump/t-belt was tampered with...

good questions everyone looks like we getting somewhere

well after the problem slowly I and Mrs have noted that car is running at bit rough and recently wouldnt Rev smoothly like something is holding the revs back hence change in leads was suggested by few that i trust most.
Got the leads changed and its running much better then before though still not like it used to just a bit rough.
Also the Mrs been complaining that sometimes engine check light comes one then goes of straigt away.

cheers

Id say if its running a bit rough (mainly at and just off idle)and slighty sluggish your cam timing is retarded hey, ie-T-Belt not fitted properly....

They were pretty popular in the US, try one of their forums. If it hasnt been covered on there, no one would probably know.

divine afg wagga clint is on the ball with it. timing belt is out a tooth or 2 somewhere.

to replace the water pumps on these motors im 99% sure the timing belt gets removed, i havent done one of these in a few years but the majority of mazda motors the timing belt has to be removed to replace the water pump.

take it to a competant mechanic and they will be able to sort it out for you, all they need to do after they strip it down is line up the timing marks correctly. sounds easier than you think but they are a fiddley car to repace a timing belt.

Check the leads as the wife has an Probe and it was doing the same
Buy the Mazda ones they are under 1/2 price of the FORD ones - I could not buy aftermarket ones for it at the time
Put it into a dark garage and start the car and watch the leads it is like a mini lightning show

Many thanks for your feedback guys - **Yift** can you or anyone here recommend any competant mechanic in melbourne im happy to even travel upto 100ks anywhere from say MELBCBD
I have been to most in my area and they dont seem to know much or as soon as I tell em its Ford Probe they get shivers lol
Plus I don't get much time from work to actually go and "Probe" for a mechanic, and not really confident to give the car to anyone I know so far including my Mates.

-- Haven't tried any Mazda Specialist well have to do some Probing over the weekend ....lol
