Short Shifter Request

Hi All,

I'm considering a short shifter for the SR. Bit of a Christmas pressie to myself!
I already have the shortened lever, but would like the whole box and dice!

I'm wondering if anyone near me (North West Melb) has one installed in an I6, and would be prepared to let me have a bit of a drive. I figure it's something I'd need to do before forking out hundreds.

Let me know if you can help me out.

Also, I'm interested in your advice and experiences of such products, even if your out of Melbourne.

BTW, here's one for a few hundred, but a standard lever and knob appears to need a bit of modding.

I cant help with experience with one of these, I'm sort of in the same boat - looking but unsure of buying yet. I do want one of the shortened levers you see on Ebay though.

My mechanics removed all the bushes from my stock shifter setup and packed it out with washers - end result is that the gear location is a lot more precise. A bit firmer yes but I do think it's a good very easy mod to do.

Ive been running a Rip Shifter for a while now and am very impressed, also any of my mates that drive it always comment on the shifter feel.....very positive shift.

I have one on the BA now and it's awesome as Craig said it's very positive shift. I can't wait to get it to the track to give a real test out

Long time no speak!

If you're interested in a Rip Shifter, you're welcome to come and have a spin of my car. (It's from the dark side, but the Ford T5 Rip's are very similar).

Hacksaw is of no use UK. I already have a shortened lever. It's now the shift mechanism that I'm looking into. LOL!

Agreed, after driving Peuty's car a while ago I will get one for the new ED 5sp daily I have... Makes the shifts sooooo nice.. 2nd /3rd shift is freaken sweeeeeeeeet...

Sweet as. Just installed a reverse sensor from Jaycar (goes on the inside of the bumper and hooks into the reverse light. Works OK.

The Billet unit will take your standard or shortened lever (and knob) no probs. We've all seen your DIY skills over the years, so I'd say you wouldn't have a prob with install. Can email you fitting instructions so you can have a scan if you like?

George, I reckon if you can find it, get a T3 lever. Ford may still have some.

I've got one in the ute. It's slightly shorter and towards the driver more. That coupled to a rip shift or the like would be the goods.
I've haven't got the shifter as I don't want to spend money on the t5.

Hi Ben,

I've already got the short stick, so I reckon I'll try that with the billet product.

I know what you mean by not wanting to spend money on the T5, however in reality it'll be a while before I get myself another car. The wagon (family car) would be replaced first, and my daily next.

So all in all, I'm keen to make the driving experience that little bit better for the next few years.

Will the $400 odd dollars be worth it? I guess I'll see! LOL! I'll be sure to let you all know.

It has been rated at the top by many racers in the US.

I cant compare, cause it's the only one I've used, but apparently they are quieter inside the cabin than all other short shifters. Less gearbox noise transmission to the lever.
The only thing is that the US cars have a 12mm thread for gearknobs. This wasn't a problem for me as I used an aftermarket one anyway.

From memory when I bought a couple of these about 2.5 years ago, it was about US$40 postage.

Sorry for the late reply, but as everyone else said, yes it all fits up fine with the Momo and yes the billet industries one you posted is the one I have. It has factory mounting points for the lever too, so your current shortie will fit as well.
