I think the deletion of the dipstick was a series 2 update for the EF, the early ones have dipsticks whereas the series 2 don't. God knows why they did it, it's a major pain in the backside, especially given the temperamental reputation of the 4 speed.

What I don't miss,

Radio Cassette
Smartlock (urrrrrrrrrrrrrrr)
Air Suspension (Faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa rt)
Tappets on cold start making your EA-AUIII sound like a Diesel for a minute
"Wow look at this technological BONANZA" - 4 Speed electronic auto badges
"Intech OHC" Badging (oh awesome it's 2002 and we are showing off that we have OHC!!)
"SOHC VCT" - which had the wonderful effect of making the AU XR6 slower due to the IRS
Head gaskets
"Alloy Head" badges
3 speed Auto's
4 speed Auto's
EF Headlights yellowing
EA-EL rear window trim Corroding
Stupid EA-EL Offsets meaning that you can get like only 4 sets of Aftermarket wheel types
AU series I
FTE Series I
The I6 Engine before the BFII (even the BA's sounded like a strained vaccum cleaner)
Clutch Fans
CFi Injection (why did we have this in 1991?)
The shuddering farting exhast dragging wreck that is any EA or NA or DA

And if anyone has an issue with anything above - then I miss freedom of speech.

-Danny :P

Yeah but the leaf springs have a place in the ute although its not that good to drive compared to the commodore IRS throw a tonne in the back and see which one works better.

I think the commy is rated to like 380KGs or something its a joke

drivers car = commodore
proper work ute = falcon

Only for the base model, the XR utes actually have a lower payload than the SS

i liked alloy head badges. if you pull up in an alloy head II your car is superior to the bloke beside you in his alloy head I and he knows it by the badge

4 speed auto in the au series is fairly good. i like it anyway.

Admittedly, We had an AUIII XR6 VCT Ute in auto, and the shifts in that felt better than the BA XR6 Auto we had after it.

I'd still trust the leaf spring setup in the Ford as I believe the rating on the XR is more to do with tyre ratings.

I liked the digital clock in the XD; I think it would've been the first one that also included the day and month as a secondary function, for when you're driving along wondering what month it is.

GT driving lights, bonnet flutes, bonnet locks, the shaker, 4wheel discs, colour coded bumpers, retractable front seat belts, "sports" instrumentation, 9n diff, chrome trim! lol

Yeah there was a trick to resetting it so the spanner didn't reappear for another 10000 km's too.

My contribution would be the thick pile carpet you use to get in the Falcon up to the EL series. Miss that as the new stuff is garbage.

That might be so danielxr8, but for taxi use the EL carpet used to get mega manky fairly quickly where as the AU carpet would stay sweet for donkeys.

Have to agree here, i also have an EFII Fairmont with nearly equal ks to my AU3 XR8. The monts carpet is buggered. And knowing its history I can say it wasnt soiled.

Which brings me to another gripe about the E-series, the smell. Is there anyone else who thinks that the E-series has a unique smell in its passenger cabin? It doesnt necessarily stink, just ive never smelt it in any other model Falcon. Mustve been the carpets & foams or something.

I always thought the SmartBar was a good feature on the EF to AUIII Falcons. It was a pretty popular option out here.

Also DIN1/2 sized head units dissapeared after AUIII, not sure when they started. Not impressed by that.

Love the little stick for balance control in the EB - ED falcons. such a pain if you knock it changing gears.
