I posted this in the Tech section a couple of weeks ago - without response:
Can anyone tell me how to go about removing the Heater Fan control Knob on a AUIII XR8. The knob I have to replace it with has a lip on the end that will seem to lock into place when installed. My problem is removing the old one to replace it with the new one. Do I need to remove the trim panels around the radio/ Heater controls to do this?

headunit out find all philips head screws in dash and undo then pull the fascia off the heater controls then screw into that from the back so you can undo those screws, and then access the knobs.

^^^ As he said. Just be careful when pulling the fascia off, that you don't break any of the clips (or bloody cut yourself on the sharp edge like i do lol)

It is fairly straight forward after that, I cant remember the location of all of the screws once you get the HU out but just have a good look around and you will find them. After that you should be able to firmly pull off the outer surround and access the AC controls, you will likely need to unplug all the looms etc to be able to take it out and work on it. Dont worry about that bit though because all of the plugs are different, so you cant plug them into the wrong spot (different sizes etc).
