You need to leave the keys in the ignition in the accessories on position for at least 45 mins - possibly as long as 2 hours.

He should be able to hit to on button and leave it for an hour. This should work. Although, I can't remember if it was the AU or the focus i did it too :

nah guys,.,,, it says error and you need yo punch in a code.. ring up ford and get the code of em... just tell them your licence plate number and they tell u the code...the stereo requests a code when the battery has been disconnected..this is a stupid safety feature as i dont know of anybody who would break into a car to steal a ford stereo!! lol

You need to have the ignition on for a certain amount of time for the 'error' to switch to 'code'. You can't punch in the code if it's displaying 'error'.

Just out of interest, how long did it actually take for the "error" to turn to "code"? 45 mins to 2 hours was just a guess.

Yep, same thing happened to us in the XR6HP; took 40 odd minutes to change from 'err' back to 'code'.

Do it again, but this time put in the wrong code. Then repeat. Then repeat again (all the wrong code). If you still don't see error, just keep punching in that wrong code. Then eventually you will see how "error" comes up!
