Sucks how some people are low enough to steal number plates. My uncle had a set stolen off his VE commodore a few months ago in the Bathurst undercover car park. Apparently a few went missing from there. His were custom manly sea eagles plates with "BRETTS" on them.

Hope you can have some luck with finding them ones.

Put them on another car and get "free" petrol - that is one of the options the thieves have in mind.

If plates are stolen, will the RTA re-issue the same plates, or do they become null and void and you have to get a new combination?

sorry ill clarify,i just figured the car is probably in parts, i am after the lot plates and car complete.

Plates are probably in a workshop or hanging on a wall, crooks love some bit of merobillia to keep.

few years ago now, its a long shot though, just thought id throw it up and see , who knows someone might have done it up for me .

taken from Jupiters Casino. got the stereo back ,found it in cash convertors at Miami, doubt it would come back to NSW when my address was in the car .

i told the cops thats easy go to the guys place who pawned the stereo, they made up some ******** , cops are ****** up didnt want to know about it, to much paper work.

I know it went north cause i got a ticket 6 weeks after for running the red light on the corner at juputers after it was knocked off.

You're joking right? I assumed if they were stolen the RTA would just re issue a plate (or plates) for a small fee, very surprised to hear that.

Does anyone know about Victoria?

Cant be done, then you'd have 2 lots of the same plates running around and the legit owner would be getting all the fines in the mail.
You can only get reprints if they were both handed in, or if really really old issue and aren't in existance and you can show they have some sentimental value.
Same as if you lose one plate, you cant get another one reprinted, you have to hand in the one you have and get issued 2 new plates.

If true, that is a bloody joke. All 3 of our cars have personal plates.... to think that if 1 or 2 went missing / stolen it's all over red rover...

I wonder.... How long does it take for the plate to become available again? Would a person who saw a desirable plate they liked flog em just so they got cancelled and become re-available again eventually???

A friend of mine had one of her plates stolen a year or so ago, and she was given a new yellow set temporarily, while her plate was being remade.
I've seen her car around since and she's back to the gold on black set she had custom made.

I had the "one way" plate screws put on mine not long after that. It's not going to stop anyone with the correct tools, but will stump the kids/opportunists.

I do. I'm in Vic and I had my LOW73 plates stolen off my ZF Fairlane.

They recommend you get new plates but i didn't want them, I wanted mine. The police issue you with a letter to keep in the glove-box and warn you that you may get pulled over in the 1st few months. I never did.

The normal go is the stolen plates are usually used to get fuel without paying then discarded.

Hope that helps

think about it! if there are 2 sets of plates is circulation how can you prove you didn't do that drive by shooting or ram raid?or the criminal scum who stole them gets caught and they try to charge them with crimes commited using your plates they argue that as there are 2 sets of plates how can they prove it was them and not you. once there are 2 sets of plates you cop a camera fine you can argue it wasn't you it wast the other plates . now do you think it's a joke that you can't keep your plates ??????????

Ok, so it seems you can keep your original personal plates should they get stolen or you lose one.

Mine have my name on them, as does the wife's car. I guess they have no real value or 'street creed' worthy of them hanging on someones garage wall.

Perhaps those 1 way screws may be a good idea?

I had a mate who stole number plates.
He wasn't trying to get free fuel or attempting to do a smash and grab or anything.
He just had a competition with other friends who could get the most, and the best personalized one.
Different styles gave you wore points apparently.

One of his aspirations in life was to get every single plate at a car yard near his house in one night with a few of his drop kick friends.

No wonder I haven't seen this guy for years.
I don't think he ever accomplished his life goal.

I was thinking along the lines of they re issue the plates in a different colour combination (if custom plates).

He could quite possibly be working on achieving his 25-to-life goal in a cell right now if he carried on down that kind of path of delinquency!

If you worried about the plates being stolen, get some epoxy and put it in the screw head. That way you can only undo it with some multi grips or vice grips, and even then it is hard.
